    Your boats winter pictures?

In the "boathouse" snug as a bug in a rug. Just pumped up the tires and greased the wheel bearings today. The gas tank is full and the battery in the basement. Come Spring she'll be back on the water with only 5 minutes needed to reinstall the battery. Boy I just love the new 4-stroke...

anyone used T&H mini Jacker Jack plate for kicker motor?

Over the years I have had several adjustable brackets and all were trashed after the second outing. Except one - my OMC bracket, which unfortunately hasn't been manufactured in 20 years. The OMC has a gas cylinder, not the crummy springs. After 34 years it still works perfect, it's easy to...

    3.5 HP Merc 4-stroke as a Kicker

The std prop is a 7" pitch and Mercury doesn't offer any other good options. However, Tohatsu sells a 4.5" pitch, which IMHO should be better if the motor is being used as a kicker on a heavy boat. Anyone with any real life experience with this combination?

    Mounting downriggers

I have a 3 piece taffrail that was OEM to the boat. If you only have narror side decks you could easily thru bolt a set yourself. Attached to the side rails I mounted a 12" x 60" piece of stained and varnished white oak using QD clamps. When I'm not trolling the whole board comes off easily...

Downriggers on 1991 Bayliner Capri 1850

Best picture I can come up with for now, and its not a Bayliner....but... I have a 3-piece taffrail. One piece is across the stern and one piece on each side. They mount on a side deck and only take up a couple inches. My downriggers are bolted to a 10" x 60" x 1" piece of stained and...

Looking for a quick and easy way to stow dock lines after shoving off

Loose lines are a safety hazard, plus they get filthy. Storage in a locker is OK, but quick access is a problem. Center consoles have notably less storage space. I hang the lines on line menders. They stay clean, dry fast and are readily accessible.

    Those Crazy Hydrofoils.

We bought a new Boston Whaler this year. Boy, when they rig a boat they surely know what they are doing. The engine is not on the transom, it's raised up several notches. The prop is a premium model and its set up to exactly hit full spec rpm at WOT. The hull design provides an awesome ride, and...

    Bilge Drain Question

Took me a while to find my pics. Here is a brass plug instaklled in the Garboard plank. Note the access hole thru the floorboard. The other is a tinny with no wood on the transom bottom. Note the flange.

2017 Mercury Elpt EFI BF 4-Stroke

For you Merc gurus... I have the subject engine on order, and want to buy a shop manual. As y'all know they are quite expensive. I can get a used 2008 book at a considerable esavings. Have there been enough changes in the past 9 years to warrant the expense of a new book?

    Help me name my boat

Boatmen have traditions. Traditions need to be adhered to. If you use cutesy names your not a Boatman. A Boater is just a guy with a boat. My boat is the "second". It was named after my father's boat, which was the "first". It is named after my Mother and my Grandmother. I got the boat...

    4-Stroke OB Trolling

We troll more than we still fish. I have always used a 2-stroke Kicker, and once set up right we can troll for hours without a hiccup. Periodically I run up to WOT, and in the Fall I always use OMC Engine tuner. Regardless, plug fouling or carbon buildup has always been a non issue. My...

    1984 Evinrude 9.9 Dripping Oil

I have old 1950's motors that run at 16:1 or 24:1 and they always have an oil drip from the lower unit's water weep holes. After a few weeks of non use the oil drip usually stops. My issue here is with a "newer" motor that has never dripped before. The motor has been a kicker for all of its...

New guy with a question about flooring

Nautolex is largely an aftermarket product. I used MariDeck (from *******), which is OEM for Starcraft, Alumacraft, Tracker, etc. Awesome flooring, plus i covered a few seats with it as well.

    Its never perfect!

Our family boat is 33 years old. The towcar is 37. (Yes, a towCAR not a pickup truck that you use at the farm). Both are pristine because they are garage kept and well maintained. I guess you could call me OCD, but I just like my things to be nice after I spent all the hard earned money to...

3.0 Liter Mercruiser 140 HP Timing

I did a complete tune-up recently. The boat runs perfect, so this was just for PM. The timing was set at 8 deg. BTDC. The spec in the owner's manual calls for 6 deg. This is a 1984 model, originally equipped with point. Its now carrying a pertronics electronic ignition. I was hesitant to...

    Cleaning Off Water Spots

I'm posting here because its not really PWC specific, though it applies more in that regard. After owning a black car I swore never to buy one again. Why I bought a black jetski is beyond me... I usually wipe off and use Meguires Quick Detailer after each ride, but this week the boat was in...

Does anyone store a boat in a garage? How do you make it fit?

I built a garage to fit the boat.....with the car still attached. You can't imagine how nice it is when you boat 2 or 3 days in a row and don't have to disconnect. The other toys are in a separate garage off a second driveway. My son built a pole barn a good 20 feet longer than his...

    Carburetor Fuel Filter Leak

1984 MCM140 Mercruiser 140HP 3.0 Liter. Rochester carb. In-line fuel filter in the fuel line on the side of the carb. I change the filters every 100 hours. This is the 14th time I’ve replaced them, so I’m not exactly a rookie. It leaks at the nut holding the fuel filter. Change the...
