Replacement for perfect seal on drain plugs

Drained my block for some cold weather. The drain plugs weren't corroded, but were difficult to remove after having put some permatex on them. They were pretty sticky. Anything else I can put on them, to make them a bit easier to remove. Maybe some Teflon tape?

Mercruiser 3.0 strange sound at low end acceleration

Idk, that's awfully loud for burnt flappers

Mercruiser 3.0 strange sound at low end acceleration

The serpentine belt is always spinning. Try disconnecting it, spin the accessories by hand, and run it a bit without the belt and see if it still makes the noise

Mercruiser 3.0 strange sound at low end acceleration

Hard to diagnose noises on video, but sounds like a gear grind almost, or can of marbles? Wondering if it's a bad alt/water pump/ps bearing? Could disconnect any relevant belts and turn by hand

    GPS speedo/tach?

No. I don't have a modern outboard. I'd want it running off the coil Transoms are not. Phones make crappy gauges

Need guidance on simple wire setup?

Is the toggle switch 3 or 4 wire? The solenoids are relays, so you just need a fused wire from the battery to them, and then low power to the switch to toggle the solenoids.

Need guidance on simple wire setup?

Are you completely rewiring? Yes, your pump would need a relay triggered by the trim switch, which would just need a low power feed. However I'd be surprised if your current setup doesn't have a solenoid at/near the pump

    GPS speedo/tach?

The holes around my speedometer pitot rotted out. Rather than redrilling I'd like to replace it with a GPS unit. My tach is also off, and I'd like tach functionality as well. Can anyone point me to something not ridiculously expensive? I'd like the tach to run off the distributor rather than be...

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

For me, how much I spend on a part is directly proportional to how big of a PITA it is to replace said part... Either way to with a PMGR starter. I've had a couple of DB electrical starters that haven't crapped out after a few years of use, others have used them as well

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Again, if anyone has access to the merc torque curves, that would be cool.

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Those are generalities. You can certainly increase the power band across the board by better technology/efficiency in an engine. They didn't put vortecs in trucks to increase power at 5k rpm. I don't know about how the carbs affect the performance, but again, boat manufacturers wouldn't put a...

    Question on fuel

And your burn rate is going to be far more dependent on what the engine is pushing vs. the engine itself

    Question on fuel

Chris is confusing Americans again. The RON used in other parts of the world is different than the aki used in the states. His 91 ron is our 86-87 aki. Use regular grade gas, premium/mid-range has ZERO beneficial effects in these engines (if I were concerned, I'd use top tier regular over cheap...

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Nice. I've tried in the past to find torque curves for these engines (particularly interested in the 3.7 v 4.3 v vortec v 4bbl/2bbl). I don't believe that you're sacrificing mid range with a vortec or a 4bbl carb, roller rockers, etc

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

If it doesn't trip when the ignition is on, that means that the fault is from the starting circuit, so either you're shorting to ground when you energize the circuit, or your starter is drawing too much current. You just need to work your way back. Try disconnecting the yellow/red white from the...
