5.7L MerCruiser Bravo III under water...repairable?

what makes me laugh sometimes is when something is touted as "new, and improved" but in practice proves to be anything but....example... direct gasoline injection vs port fuel injection...for a small increase in efficiency, owners are having to put up with problems that they never had with...

    Aq271 fresh water cooled Manifolds

I keep my boat in salt water all season (6 months) only flush at the end of the season and fill with antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors when winterizing. I’ve never had a failure and have changed them usually @ 5-7 seasons (OEM batwings). Don’t know how far I could have gone to the point of...

Running boat on land with no prop?

Well I’ve never run my Cobra in a trough but when I launch it the ramp is shallow and the top of the outdrive is just barely submerged (impeller housing in these is in the upper gear unit); it always primed I never had a problem with it running hot when launching. I do run it on the muffs at...

1991 OMC 4.3L HO SPITFIRE TO EST CONVERSION. NEED HELP.

I would contact CDI electronics in Alabama. They make ESA modules for Cobras and I think the do make one for the 4.3 EST combination. I got one of theirs for my 4.3 that still has the points distributor after the original ESA quit working. This one will work with points or Petronix but not EST...

5.7L MerCruiser Bravo III under water...repairable?

I learned about this via a neighbor, we keep our boats in a harbor that our neighborhood backs up to. Up here in Long Island everyone pulls their boat for winter if they are not in a marina with bubblers to keep the water from freezing. Well this guy had a wooden cruiser and one winter he didn't...

OMC used a Ford 2.3 liter inline 4 (from the Pinto/Bobcat and others) Ford built a 250 cu in six and a 200 cu in years ago and their best was a 300 cu in six None used in boats though I'd take one of those all cast iron Ford 300 cu in (4.9) liter beasts over any of the aluminum and plastic crap...

    Mounting transducer near outdrive?

You could also just get a shoot thru the hull transducer, mount it in the bilge (if not cored) and use a GPS unit for speed. Won't get water temp though.

If its got an ECM controlled efi system (probably throttle body EFI) and no ecm, there was a place that could repair these, maybe you can contact them & see if they have spares. Otherwise, see what intake you have, you might be able to simply convert back to a simpler (and better IMO) carbed...

    5.0 Quick drain Winterization

A relative has one of the newer Merc 4.5 liter V6s with that quick drain system, we used it last fall and it seemed to drain a lot of water so thinking it was fine, then I manually filled with AF. And it was fine no problems in the spring. My thought for this year is to collect what drains from...

Risers and manifolds at the same time?

Yes that’s the one piece used from 1985-1990. 91 and up they went to the 2 piece units that both OMC & Volvo used. Looks like you got the first run of the 2 piece set up which is good because if you need to replace you can just get a Barr Marine aftermarket kit for like $725 or so… 10 years of...

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

that's the part that is tricky and not sure if the length of the driveshaft splines changed, or what might have happened...I guess if you could compare parts numbers that might tell you if the driveshaft was the same part number for both coupler designs, then it might work, otherwise, hard to tell.
