Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

Just look up the specs on a 1992 40 hp Mercury classic two stroke, 4 cylinder...dry weight is 192 lbs according to factory service manual !! I had an 85 hp omc V4 and it weighed 225 lbs according to factory specs in the manual. These new four strokes are heavy and hanging over the stern like...

    Leaking at a rivet

From the pic it looks like some aluminum is missing. You might need a small patch over that area. If no material is missing, try some " goop" over the area, I have had good sucess with this stuff.

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

There are special props to help lift a heavy stern, you will need a prop shop/ specialist to explain and guide you. Wow...350 lbs...my 4 cylinder two stroke is 195 lbs...big difference !!....afraid your gonna need more weight up front !! My boat itself weighs just under 1000 lbs, how much does...

Mercury 75hp on aluminum 16’ Starcraft

Probably a four stroke ??? Stern heavy it sounds like....I have a 16' Sylvan alum. with a 40 hp Merc classic two stroke abd I get 30 plus mph ( gps) trimmed out a bit. You may have ro move some weight forward to counter that heavy four stroke.. Just an educated guess here.

Old Member returning - purchased a motor for my inflatable, a bit nervous...

Set up the boat and motor in your drive with a pair of water muffs. Then you can play with your motor and get the feel of how it starts, runs etc.

    1989 25hp Evinrude compression release

Fully charged is 12.7 volts...12 volts is dead. Squirt some storage oil in the cylinders and crank it over a bit to lube thing up and see what happens. Check for corroded connections !!

raising transom on a boat for a long shaft.

Not ideal, but will work if you make it solid. How is the existing wood or are you replacing all the transom wood?

    New to me

Cracks in the glass are not just repairs, it is the start of structural issues ! Best way is to open up the floor and check the stringers for rot. The transom can be drilled for core samples from the inside near the bottom, not all the way thru ! Dry solid wood is what your looking for, wet/...

raising transom on a boat for a long shaft.

Why not replace the lower unit on the motor with a shorter one, probably less work !! Most came with either a 15" or 20" leg and they are interchangable.
