New impeller and housings, no water..

That hose plugs into a hole in the upper gear housing so you don’t see the water coming out. If you wanted to use it as a tell tale I guess you could re route that hose to a hole in the plastic cover. Your idea about filling the raw water hose is a good one, I do that for my first start of the...

New impeller and housings, no water..

From The nipple on the housing I think I read somewhere it was also supposed to be like a tell tale on an outboard & you’d see water coming out from under the housing letting you know the impeller is working. Make sure no water is seeping out around the housing when running it on the muffs Did...

New impeller and housings, no water..

    1) which impeller kit did you use? OEM is best 2) that oring gasket for the housing can move out of place when installing it. I will test that by running it on the muffs & watching for water leakage around the housing before re installing the plastic cover 3) there is a nipple in the housing...

    Proper Castle Nut Installation

They also make spindle nuts with more slots to give more accurate pre load adjustment.

Twin Merc. 6.2 Mags with Bravo 3 - EMCT Temperature Overheat Fault - Port side Manifolds (Only)

Bravoitis involves the collar for the thru the transom hose necking down due to corrosion. You have to pull the drive to inspect. Merc & others make a repair kit but it can be tough to install depending on access. With stern drives you should always troubleshoot overheating starting with a raw...

Which boat? Brit in Canada ..

I have a 20’ Four Winns & I would not put more than 4-5 people in it. 8/9 people would be falling over each other! For rough water I’m not really a fan of open bow boats. I don’t they are that safe in rough water and even so called “self bailing” boats have small drains & only a single bilge...

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

They don’t look bad to me, if you scrap em with a paint scraper see how much metal comes off. Surface flakes is ok but big chunks then replace

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

Post up a pic of the water outlet area. They look good from what is showing in the pix. Fresh water or salt? Is the rust just surface rust or do you see chunks coming off if you poke it with a screwdriver? If surface rust ok but if chunks are flaking off then replace.

4.3 TKS "Run On" fixed but Slight Loss in Performance

Fouled with carbon suggests rich fuel mix not lean… Running hot/lean would show blistered white on the center electrode insulator.

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

That could be condensation, because even if the outer water passages leaked I doubt it will find its way inside. I’d at least replace the elbows and see how the mating surface of the risers (spacers) & manifolds clean up. What I’ve done is to take off the manifolds and prop them up level & fill...

    new 5.7 vortec parts

If the oil pans are the same then your old parts should fit….if both engines are Vortecs the outside deminsions & other parts are pretty much the same however GM did some odd things like mixing SAE & metric fasteners on the same engine!

    Risers getting very hot

That’s also possible. If you use the VP factory gaskets they are supposed to get spray on copper based sealer. I used Permatex Aviation on my Barr Marine aftermarket manifolds & elbows and no leaks at all. Had them off to do other work last year (steering actuator) and no sign of leaks anywhere...

    Risers getting very hot

With the Volvo style exhaust it is a cold manifold system where the manifolds get full flow from the thermostat housing all the time. So they should not run hot if everything is working as designed. I have that same exhaust on my OMC Cobra and running temps are about 95-110 at idle and the...

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

Basically what you are doing is testing the internal cooling passages in the block, heads and intake manifold. So the hoses that go to the elbows or manifolds from the thermostat housing are removed then you take one hose and connect both sides of the stat housing, to it. Then you make up a way...

Wonder if I should go IO again or go OB?

The only way I see the pendulum swinging back to I/Os is if the EPA forces the abomination of the cat converter on OBs which will make them even bigger and heavier. Even then, there are still some very significant advantages of outboards: No bellows that can leak and let water in the boat and...

    Proper Castle Nut Installation

I'm thinking the spindle might be drilled like that because some trailer companies used a long vs a short hub. I do think that for sure there should be a washer between the outer bearing race and the castle nut, to spread the preload out evenly. I've worked on a few trailers and even some old...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

Unfortunately it's normal here, due to high humidity, damp climate, etc. Mold on north east facing house roofs and fences is a big problem, however, one thing that is very rare here, is wildfires. Just too damp & humid most years. If the boat sank or partially sank in salt water, the amount of...

Twin Merc. 6.2 Mags with Bravo 3 - EMCT Temperature Overheat Fault - Port side Manifolds (Only)

the old tech won’t die out Just look at the classic car hobby The nay sayers said 30 years ago carbs would disappear Go take a look at Holley’s website, how many different types of carbs are sold currently…it’s a LOT…. Twin Merc. 6.2 Mags with Bravo 3 - EMCT Temperature Overheat Fault - Port side Manifolds (Only)

Better hope that none of the states get the bright idea of emissions equipment inspections on boats after a certain year. In NY your vehicle must have all of it in place & no check engine light to pass. No sniffer test but if you’re getting any CE codes no pass. If that comes to pass then lots a...
