    Oil Injection removal

Gee, I don't think you should make any mods to the carb jets. If it runs poorly, clean the carbs and adjust the idle mixture, as you would on any motor. I would guess that thousands of Mercs have been converted to premix. I understand that there are cover plates sold, to fill the hole where...

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

Scott, the correct term for the VRO pumps used in the mid-late 90's was OIS, for Oil Injection System. Racer, maybe the carbs will not be 100% full of oil, but they will gradually fill with oil, until the mix in no longer burnable by the motor. Is that a significant difference? You still...

    Spark jumping

Gee, it looks like a Mercury coil, likely from a 70's Merc. Some of those had battery powered CDI ignition with a distributor. The triggers can be intermittent. How are my guesses?

    New tach issue

You did buy the ones intended for Sterndrives, right? If that is so, I expect you are connecting the tach signal wire to the ground post of the tach. You might doublecheck your wiring.

Steering bracket help 1959 lark 35

I had cable and pully-style steering, so I do not know exactly what you need. This is what I had for my Johnson engine. Something like this would probably work.

Prop diameter effect and planing trouble

Probably not helpful for you, as you want to be rid of it, but those 19 footers with V6 Sterndrives are pretty butt heavy. They plow some water when accelerating, even with good motors and props. A mitigation is power trim tabs. With tabs down, she will pane at lower speed and therefore...

    trailer manufacturer picks?

We use galvanized roller trailers here on the Jersey shore. Rollers make it much easier to get the boat off and on, and more convenient to bottom paint the hull when on the trailer.

    Winch Strap longevity

Unfortunately they do that, at an unexpected time, and since they stretch, they snap back a bit. 3 months seems way too short, however. Maybe strap was too weak for your application. I am installing 3/8" galv wire rope on my trailer. It should be overkill, but at $20 for the rope, hook...

    Trailer Leafsprings Bottoming Out

First of all, put the leaf springs on top of the axles. The way you have them means the ubolts must take all the pressure from the boat's weight. They were never intended to do that. BTW - the plate should face up. The springs are a bit long. Is there any way to spread the anchor points for...

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Almost as much fun as an oil debate.

Boat taking on water and I have no idea why

Outboard powered? Although you looked them over, it is likely one of the thru hull fittings has a leaking or broken hose on it. It could be the cockpit scuppers, or one of the other fittings. The outlet of the scuppers is usually below or at the waterline. Those plastic scuppers do crack...

Mercury Black Max 150hp outboard making weird sound

That is a 1993, if the decals are original to the motor. I do not like the sound of it, but am unsure what the issue is. Maybe a knock? Make sure the spark plug wires are on the correct plugs. Pull the cowling and see if anything is amiss. Starter turning, something loose. You may need to...

    Oil Injection removal

OK, Even if that is true, of which I am unsure, how long does it take when you first go to idle, before the mixture becomes 100::1? How long dies it take before the mixture becomes 50::1 as you throttle up slowly? Your engine doesn't care a lot what the mixture is. You obviously need a 50::1...

    New to me 850 mercury

Actually DWC, I disagree. You can replace the stator by pulling those 8 5/16" bolts in the outer flywheel. Much easier than using a puller. You don't even need to remove the inner flywheel when rebuilding the engine, only when you are replacing the timing belt. Match marks on the two...

    New to me 850 mercury

That motor has some challenges. None serious. I assume that you have never seen an intact version of your motor. That makes it tricky. The first thing to do is to test the ign system. You need one for a battery-powered CDI unit. Do a search on clams canino on this forum for a ign test. CDI...

What Is The Small Black 7/64" Vacuum Line For?

Gravity causes oil to settle in the lower main bearing. Pressure from the crankcase, forces the oil on the bearing, thru a brass one way fitting, thru the hose up to the top main bearing, to oil it.

    Question about battery post connections

There is nothing wrong with using the binding posts. We have used them successfully on cars/trucks etc. for years. If you have any doubts that the bolts are loose or can come loose, get some binding post adaptors and use them. They have ones that have bolts and wing nuts, plus they fit on the...

Steering bracket help 1959 lark 35

The original quick-style connection to the motor was a push rod+spring with a pin. You push it thru the hole in the center bar of the engine, against the spring and turn it to lock. In your case get some kind of L bracket and drill and bolt to the engine and the steering cable. likely a...

    Oil Injection removal

Why exactly is the mixture richer? You went from a 50::1 oil injection-created mix to a 50::1 premixed fuel.

    Motor well boot sealing

Gee, rip that out and try again. You can cut the end of the boot to make the hole larger. Pull that cable on the side to the center and use some cable ties to hold it together. The cables can distort the boot, but should come thru the center.
