Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

You run the motor out of gasoline on a Johnnyrude with OIS and you will have carbs full of oil. There is no quick disconnect on those oil injection models, for that reason.

You might tell us the year. Different years had different ign systems.

    Outdrive corrosion?

You might have this moved to the V-P section. If that is galvanic corrosion, you likely need some anodes and test for some current leak into the water, Was the paint factory applied, applied by you or someone else?

    Trim stopped working

OK, so you had an electrical problem, as the PTT motor did not spin. You fixed it by adding hydraulic fluid. I will go out on a limb and say the electrical problem will be back.

1989 Sea Nymph TX 175 Tournament Pro - Floor Drain

A lot of boats from that vintage did not have self-bailing cockpits. The water seeps into the bilge and gets pumped out. If your deck is below the waterline, it cannot be self-bailing. If you provide a picture of the interior, we may be able to give you a place to look.

Do you use non ethanol gas ?

Actually The Dry-Gas brand additive is isopropyl alcohol, as are most of the other brands like Heet. They treat frozen water blocking the fuel line, by absorbing the water so it cannot freeze. I have heard that they are bad for 2 cycle motors, although he reasons given could be wives tales...

    Bed Liner Waterproofing

Cloth works fine with poly resin. I have been told (never tried it) that CSM binder is dissolved by epoxy resin. That is the only incompatibility I know of. You do not really need to waterproof the top of the stringers. However, laying cloth over them and screwing down the deck binds...

    Bed Liner Waterproofing

Chopped Strang Mat is not real flexible, as you are seeing. You could lay the CSM flat across all the stringers and staple it down. Saturate it and lay the decking over it. Of course, you will get a better outcome by stapling the mat to the underside of the decking and laying that over the...

    Cleaning gas tank?

Your fuel tank is probably made of aluminum, if original to that year boat. If you boat is fresh water, it is likely in good shape without any corrosion or rust. Steel fuel tanks were usually not used after the 70's. Plastic tanks started being used in the 90's.

    Bed Liner Waterproofing

Gee, that would be way down my list, behind polyurethane resin, spar varnish, epoxy paint etc. Why can you not glass it? You can always staple some fiberglass cloth to the underside of the deck, saturate it with resin and lay it over the stringers. Be sure to screw thru the decking into the...

    Hydrofoil/Whale Tail Good or Bad

They are supposed to help the boat plane. They often drag at planning speed. Tri-hull boats plane pretty easily, compared to Vee hulls. What length boat and HP engine?

    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

Marc, Mercury Marine makes a special lube just for steering cables and prop shafts. It is called "Special Lube 101". 1 tube last for years. That is what I would recommend, if in the business of recommending.

    Replacing trim motor

I never did support the motor in any significant way. I did stick a board under the center of the motor, but my engine is bolted on above the transom. if yours sits on the transom, it is probably supported adequately.

    1987 115 2-stroke in-line six surging at higher RPM?

If the fuel pump cannot supply the required fuel flow for high speed, the speed will ocellate. It could be something as simple as a stuck one way valve in the fuel pump, or a clogged fuel screen.

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

Yes, my 1958 Fat-Fifty was roller and ball bearing. I even found a piece of a clam shell in the lower main ball bearing. Didn't see to affect it though. I think the smaller OBs were sleeve main bearing until 1963 or 1964. Not sure when the big twins changed over.

    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

Clean and grease the steering rod at the motor. That is the first place it will get stiff. Use mineral spirits to clean it up real well, and marine grease to lube it up. Pulling the steering cable can help, but is not really necessary. Just do enough iterations of clean until you get all...

    Replacing trim motor

You probably need to remove one of the trim brackets to get to that rear screw. That is much better then lifting the motor. So unbolt the PTT cylinders from the trim bracket (3 bolts?). Remove the large nut on the tilt tube and the two transom bolts, and slide the transom bracket onto the...

    1983 200hp Black max overheating at/over 4000rpm

That motor has thermostats and a poppit valve. Thermostats cool the motor at low speed and the poppit opens to cool the motor at high speed. I would recommend you replace the thermostats, so the system is configured properly. At about 2000 PM the poppit valve should open. You might inspect...

Disconnecting the fuel line, let engine burn gas ?

When Evinrude went to 50::1 gas-oil ration, it was because they converted their sleeve bearings to roller and needle bearings. Sleeve bearings need more oil in the mix to rotate properly. By 1964 all Johnnyrude models had been converted.

    Which are bilge/drain plugs

The ones with the black plastic perimeters are not the bilge drain. The one in the very bottom with a painted perimeter is likely the bilge drain plug. You should see it is open on the inside of the bilge. The painted hole higher up is the splashwell drain. It is above the waterline and...
