    Question on bimini top location

Even a better reason for installing the sliding rails !!! No matter where you mount it, there will come a day where you wish it was more forward or more backwards.....so prevent the going thru that, just add a rail and you can havevthe top where ever you want it and can easily move it the next...

    Question on bimini top location

Mounted many tops over the years, the best installs were on sliding rails sovthe main pivot point can be slid back or forward. These sliding rails can be had in various lengths from 12" to 4 feet. A simple thumb screw lock allows them to be easily moved. Many timesvthe best storage position is...

    Winter Storage

If you cant find some, you could make your own or go shopping at a good hardware store. Over my many years of tinkering with old boat motors, I have found or made many of these little gasket/ washers. Look at "fiber washers", found at many hdwe stores with a variety of special type washers...

    Fuel treatment question.....

    Winter Storage

Synthetic lubricants are designed to provude more lubrication than dinosour lubes ( petroleum based). They are also far more stable under extreme temperatures. Dino oil gets thin under high heat and gets thick in the cold. Syn lubes dont do that, so they flow more uniformly at temperature...

    Winter Storage

You can get cheap oil pumps that fit into your oil container for just a few bucks thru Harbor Freight or other discount stores. On my small outboards I use the walmart version of synthetic gear lube 75w-140, in my area it is made by Valvoline. Exceeds all mfgrs requirements. I have had better...

    Winter Storage

I always used fogging oil on my 4 stroke engines, but on the two stroke motors just choke the motor until it stalls, that will leave a good coat of oil on the internals. If you can acess the carb bowl drain screw, drain the carb bowls, but on many more modern engines where the carbs are buried...

    replacing tires

When you hear bad things about jacking on the axle, there are folks that put a jack in the middle of the axle to lift both ends at the same time....this can easily bend an axle !! If you jack one side under the spring suport, you are fine, as it is one of the stronger points on the trailer...

    Winter Storage

The other thing you can do is run the OB with the choke on, when it stalls, leave it alone, just drain the water out and drain/ fill the lower unit. Be sure you run fuel stabilizer in that last run.

    Telescoping emergency paddle

Still gonna be tough to oaddle if an emergency crops up. A pair of oarlocks weigh very little and will add to his ability to control and maintain headway, which either would be difficult with a fold up paddle!! I tried a foldup paddle in my 12' alum jon boat....not an easy task !!

    Big difference between a 14' and a 12' jon boat !!

    Telescoping emergency paddle

Trolling motors are great if you need them for quiet moving around, but...My understanding is the original poster was just looking for emergency power. With an outboard plus a battery plus a trolling motor is alot for a 12' jon boat. Here in Ohio, your small watercraft is required a backup...

Front wheel drive launching & retrieving

You bet, unfortunately I have seen a few that have made some of those bad decisions !! Thevreally sad part is having them standvthere and look like " what did I do?"

    Telescoping emergency paddle

Dont waste your time with paddles, go with oars instead!! Using a paddle in a jon boat wont be easy, oars much easier... I made hangers to hold my oars along the inside of my jon boat, out of the way, but ready if needed. Paddle once and you wont want to do it again, rowing is much easier.

Front wheel drive launching & retrieving

Actually reconsider using your local launch ramp, but do it when it is raining or weather is crappy when no one else is there. When my kids were learning to drive, they were required to check engines ( oil, coolant, wiper fluid etc.) Change a tire, jump a battery and learn to back up a trailer...

Front wheel drive launching & retrieving

Over my 60 plus years of boating, I have seen all types of towing scenerios. Some good and many not so good, but folks get away with it for a while. During mybteen days my summers were spent working at a marina, the launch ramp and grass mowing was my responsibility. Back then the ramp fee was...

Correct time to winterize stern drive engine?

Your safest bet is to drain after every use, but I had the same motor in my Islander, there I would use two incadesent light bulbs in those aluminum bell shaped housings. Put one on each side of my engine low in the bilge area ( heat rises). My temps under the doghouse were always near 60...
