Coupler pin lock & tow hitch receiver pin lock

Over my many years of boating, I have been lucky enough that I have never been a victim of having my boating things stolen. With that said, there have been others in the same parking lot that have been ripped off !! Over the years, everything from trailers, entire boats and trailers, justbthe...

correct prop for 74 mercruiser 140hp

Speed freaks I see....lol...the fastest boat I ever owned would do just 35 mph, over the 12 years of owning it, I found that I could count on one hand the number of times I could safely run at that speed. In my area the lake is never calm enough to run that speed !!

Coupler pin lock & tow hitch receiver pin lock

Nothing will stop those who really want it, but any decent quality lock will usually cause a thief to look for an easier to steal unit. Keep your insurance paid up and your fingers crossed. About all we can do. There are certain ramps I dont use due to their locations and history. A call to...

    Should I winterize my boat?

Keep it in a non freezing garage or barn....in the past I used two 75 watt light bulbs in those aluminum housings inside the dog house, low in the engine compartment during cold spells, according to my thermometer it stayed 50-60 degrees. Are you a gambler ??

Should I opt for oil delete? confused. seeking expert consult

I have a 92 40 hp oil injected merc. My mechanics in my area claim the merc oil injection systems are good. Only the vro system by the Johnson people have had issues. My system has worked flawlessly since new so I wouldnt fix what isnt broke

Lifting boat off trailer to repair bunk

I would never use lag bolts for a bunk. Go with a carridge bolt ( rounded head) and add a nut on the outside. A couple jam nuts will lock the bolt in place and keep it there even if the wood swells and shrinks. If your wood has become soft why not just replace the entire bunk or bunks then...

    Winter Fuel Additive

I would stick with a brand name, no telling what is in the no name aftermarket stuff. I have had good sucess with Sea Foam, Stabil, Lucas, and I am sure there are others that folks have had good sucess with. These additives are designed to treat fresh fuel to keep it from going stale, none...

What is the next logical step?

Yes sir...I add many tags to my electrical wiring to keep things in order. I also zip tie all the wires going to each side and even add colored plastic tags made from old oil bottles ( red and black) zip tied on as well. Saved me many times from having to trace wires back or creating a short.

    Never owned a boat!

We have a lot of slick ramps in my area, I see many with only 2wd at rear wheels using longer trailer tongues to keep their rear tires on drier parts of the ramp. One fellow I see often, has at least a 4' extension on his tongue !!! Our ramps also tend to be shallow so you need to back further...

How much outboard motors have improved.

Both previous owners made the same claim to its fuel effiency, the motor is a 92 and still has almost perfect compression. Cant say what the future will bring but it sure runs great now !!

    EFB Batteries

You should have plenty of power from your trolling motor batteries to run your electronics and keep the group 24 just for starting and gages. I have two group 31 batteries for my trolling motor and can run it all day (8hrs) trolling with some capacity left. Certainly enough power for your...

    Bearing Buddies Ruined?

When I add grease, I watch for the plate to move, when it gets out a little I stop. Another thing to consider when installing new ones is to jack up that tire enough to spin it. As you slowy pump in grease, spin the tire. When the plate pushes out stop. In all my years of boating only one BB...

    Never owned a boat!

Many marinas no longer allow fueling at your dock. Major safety concerns, you must use their fuel dock or fuel up elsewhere. Most marinas in my are, and told that this becomming the rules all over, no filling your boat at dock from portable gas cans...
