    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Looks like some sort of shock absorbing fitting. Maybe it had a rubber "doughnut" on top of it, under a bunk support?

Glastron GT-150 Ideal Prop for Slalom Skiing

70HP is marginal for slalom skiing. A higher pitch prop could add some speed, but will reduce power, maybe until a deep water start is real difficult. I have done deep water slalom starts where I had to take a breath and duck under the water, as the boat built speed, due to low HP. It...

Upgrading trailer tires and rims - need advice

In the photo, your trailer looks to be bent or sagging in the rear. Hopefully it is a trick of the image. Can you put a spacer between the axle and the frame, to raise the trailer a bit?

You can look them up on crowleymarine. The switchbox and trigger should be in wide use so you can get one at many places on the web.

Nylon vs Polyester Rope for Mooring a Houseboat to Shore

OK, I read polyprop, instead of Dacron. I have never used Dacron line. I use solid braid nylon for dock lines and 3 strand twisted nylon for anchor lines. They last decades.

Nylon vs Polyester Rope for Mooring a Houseboat to Shore

Nylon is what you want. Polyester line will rot out in short order in the sunlight.

stuck in neutral on 90hp due to shifter on console

Clean it up and grease it. If nothing is broken, it should work fine. This happens occasionally, especially here on the saltwater.

    Corrosion/coating on props question

Don't paint SS props. That will allow marine growth and corrosion, due to the copper component of the paint. You will want extra zinc anodes with SS props. Wire brush/sand them clean each spring. Wax can assist as well.

    1989 xr4 150 that sat 3 years issues.

Outboard spark plug wires have stranded stainless steel conductors. Do not use resistor wire as used in autos. You can search for aftermarket custom fit from Sierra or others, or use OEM. You can make your own, with new springs, boots etc., however, I would buy them premade, to eliminate any...

Primer for Wood for oil-based Rustoleum?

Presumably the transom board is wood? Rustolium does make a primer for wood, although you could use brand any oil based primer for wood. I am not sure I would use paint on any underwater wood. Paint just sits on the surface of the wood and blisters too easily when exposed to moisture. I...

Replacing trailer axle... what are the considerations?

If you know the brand of the trailer, you can look at the large trailer places like etrailer or eastern marine. Their websites have OEM replacements, that may tell you exactly what you had new. Armed with that knowledge, you can pick and choose what you want to replace. It does look like you...

    1989 xr4 150 that sat 3 years issues.

I doubt that motor had an electric fuel pump from the factory. I doubt it is your reed valves. They are pretty robust. Look for a mechanical fuel pump and rebuild it, and sack the electric one. A defective fuel pump diagram will flood some cylinders. Check spark plug wires for arcing to...

Searched - DIY Transom Cap Ideas

If you do not need great strength, look at some rubber or thin metal rub rails. They have solid rubber, solid aluminum which can be bent and other options. They attach with SS screws or pop rivets. I think taco is a large manufacturer.

Where to obtain correct service manual?

You might check the large black wire connection to the down relay. For up to work, the down relay must be grounded, when not energized. I believe those relays have 2 grounds, one for the primary and one for the secondary circuit. Since down works, the ground (and power) on the down relay...

Where to obtain correct service manual?

Do yourself a favor. Pull the cowling and trace the blue wires from the PTT relays to the switch in the cowling. See if it goes thru a trim limit switch, or direct to the switch. It might just be unplugged or broken.

    1989 Celebrity 181BR Restoration

Chris51280 states that he used 30 gal of resin, for $750. Not sure what he did with all that. He cited 65 yards of cloth and 8 sheets of plywood. That also seems excessive. The other materials are harder to check. I doubt you will need the non-slip sand, however. The goal is to bed the...

Where to obtain correct service manual?

If the trim doesn't work from either switch, but does when you jumper it, it is likely the up wiring where the trim wires meet under the cowling. Check the bullet connectors for unplugged or corroded. Some older motor models have a trim limit switch. On the 80s motors it is located in one of...
