    Fuel Problem

Great, If the issue is there on initial start up and run, and after you take the vapor separator apart, you can then clean the carbs idle circuits.

    1973 Mercury 1150 Misfire on cylinder 3 and 6

I do not think you have an ign problem. At least not on the distributor side. Make sure the part of the cylinder head that seats the #3 and #6 spark plugs is clean, so they have a good ground. What did you see on the timing light? No flash on cylinders 3 and 6?

    Fuel Problem

Tony, your original description does not match the heat soak issue. Heat soak (if that is what happens), occurs when the motor is run for a while, turned off for 30minutes or so, and restarted. The motor initially runs perfectly at idle and high speed, until turned off and restarted. That is...

    Fuel Problem

Tony, so you think only 1 or 2 carbs would get dirty at once? Let's see same fuel, same time frame, but only dirt in some of the carbs....really? If the vapor separator cover leaks or the needle is worn, the motor would starve for fuel at high speed, as well. Not what was reported.

    Fuel Problem

And why don't you think it is your carbs? I would suspect your carb idle circuit and needle are dirty or out of adjustment. BTW - the idle needle is likely located in the throttle body, not the carb. Make sure the carb bowls haven't warped. The plastic ones tend to do that.

    Winterizing Question

After the block drains, add some A-F via all hoses and watch for it to push out some additional water. When you see the A-F start to drain, install drain plugs and fill block and manifolds. You should see some A-F out exhaust . Don't forget to dump A-F down raw water hose to push water out...

2004 75hp Mercury outboard No power

What you did will not ruin the starter solenoid, so she would crank. I therefore suspect you do not have power to the ign switch for some reason. Maybe another fuse? Broken wire? Be aware that she may not have spark, since you switched the batt terminals. That is hard on the ign system...

2000 Johnson 150 hp Port side temp switch

See it the one wire temp switch will thread into the block. If so, make some kind of a jumper from the sensor to the temp wire of the 2 wire sender. I would think a bullet type connector might work. Remember the temp sender wire is tan. That is the one to connect the one wire temp sensor.

1997 Evinrude v4 115 "insufficient fuel flow" alarm?

For a 1997 motor, I would recommend a service manual. The Marineengine web site usually sells them. You will need the model number. A 1998 60* V4 motor does not have the insufficient fuel flow alarm. I therefore suspect you motor doesn't have one either. You will have a no oil, low oil...

New VRO Fails No Oil Alarm Test

OK, I think your motor your motor originally had a 3 wire VRO pump. I do not think it had the no oil function. So, does your alarm/ system check tach have provision for the no oil alarm, from the new 4 wire VRO pump? Have you added a wire to your harness to effect the new alarm? The...

Power Tilt Not Working Going Down

You likely have bullet connectors where the PTT wires on the throttle handle plug into the PTT wiring harness on the motor. Look for a disconnected bullet connector or a corroded one.

Why not spray some wd-40 or equivalent into the bottom of the toggle switch, to displace the water.

    Oil/fuel Question

That motor was designed to run on regular leaded fuel and non-detergent SAE 30 motor oil. Whereas you can still probably find non-detergent SAE 30 motor oil, I would recommend TCW-III 2 cycle oil, as it will have much less carbon build up. Regular unleaded gasoline mixed 24::1 with oil is just...

    Tilt and trim help

I have never seen water get into a motor-mounted PTT switch (if factory). Rain has gotten into my throttle mounted PTT switch a couple of times.

    Tilt and trim help

The thumb operated toggle switches can get water in them. The water sinks to the bottom, completing the up circuit. Best to check those first.

    Transom Drilling and Checking

Do you have a reason to check the transom? Drilling holes in a waterproof member, that is working, invites rot, as it defeats the waterproofing.

    Laying the Deck Questions

I like solid P/t lumber, very dry, for the stringers. Plywood on edge doesn't hold screws very well. Stainless steel screws should be 6-8 in apart.; Cover them in glass/resin. JMO

    1978 Terry ABF 4.7M, 1977 Merc 850: Power Trim

You could always pull a hydraulic hose off the pump/reservoir unit and run the pump, to drain the oil. However, unless it is contaminated, why do that? Stick a q tip into the fill hole and see what color the oil is. Red, clear is ATF, brown, clear is motor oil. The cylinders also have a fair...

    Laying the Deck Questions

I used strips of FG cloth, saturated with resin, laid on the ends of the stringers, and stainless steel screws. I also coat the underside of the plywood deck with resin, before installation.
