    Too far away for me to help.---You need a starter ( best option ) from say 1965 33 HP to 1970 33 HP.----Or 1965 40 HP to about a 1970 40 HP.

    Model # is ?-----Post the actual compression values.-----Checked / cleaned the high speed jets that are screwed into bottom of float bowl ?----Does spark jump a gap of at least 3/8" on both leads ?----Checked flywheel key?----Checked fuel pump diaphragm?

    Just got a 2004 Yamaha 90 HP 4 stroke from a dealer.----Traded some used parts a while ago.----Dealer pulled cylinder head off.----Saw lots of corrosion in head gasket area.----Sold customer a new motor.----I do not believe owner got any beer tokens for it as it was declared scrap.

    The big 4 strokes can be " serviced " by your local shop.------They can not be rebuilt by your local shop.-----Cost of labor and ----" I need it by the week end "----means they suggest a new motor.

    When exhaust ports are open they will crawl right into a cylinder and make a comfy home.-----Then when nature calls they do their business near there.----Disaster in the making !! ---And I doubt they would go through a reed valve

    Sorry----I guess I missed the fact that you " tried " new fuel pump in post #1------So post a video of motor running / idling and pictures of the wet plugs / carburetor.

    Looked at a trailer load of parts motors the other day.----A few fairly new 4 strokes in the 25 / 30 HP range.-----Seems the dealers / owners just opted for a new motor instead of attempting repairs !!

    It takes a bit of effort to overcome the detent.----Try with more force.-----Doubt there is anything wrong.
