1995 mariner 200 hp non efi lost spark

Mercury has a low speed and a high speed stator winding. Maybe the high speed winding is bad? Alternatively, Sounds like either the killer wire (black/yellow) is rubbing ground, when you are bouncing around at high speed, or the stator feed to the switchbox is intermittent.

    850 Mercury

Cowling colors are from 1976/77. Remove airbox and top cowling and see if carbs throttle plates open with throttle. Motor will have 2 carbs with linkage between them. If that all works, suspect carbs are dirty or fuel pump is bad. Both can be cleaned and rebuilt cheaply, if you do the work...

Mercury 850 Outboard super high Idle

The trigger is a lever under the flywheel. It is connected by linkage to the carbs. As you move the throttle, the trigger should move also.

My gauge cluster was stolen from me

They all need power and ground. These can come from the same source. The power wires will be fused and are usually on the ignition switch accessory post. The other wires are unique and not fused. Obviously oil pressure and water temperature will come from the engine look for the unique wire...

Took boat to "marine mechanic" and now it's not drivable

A leaking fuel pump diagram will cause the lower cylinders to load up with fuel and oil. of course that is just a guess.

    Mercury tower of power years

The last 140HP IL6 was made in 1978-1979, I believe. It was the same as the Merc 1500, but since Merc introduced a 150HPV6 motor in 1978, they changed the IL6 to 140HP. There were some earlier 140HP IL6 models, say around 1972. As was said, the motor is likely worth very little, say $300.

    Is 90hp ob enough??

Like most IL4 engines, the 3.0L motor doesn't have the good sound or the increased power of the V6. The 3.0Lmotor is entry level for boats in that length, but still better then most entry powerplants. it should power that boat to 35MPH or so. A V6 would add 5-10 MPH. Anyone ride in a 24...

Trim motor 1994 Black Max 150

The OEM trim motor replacement kit (2 wire motor with relays) is 878265A6, but NLA. I would check ARCO as they make replacement kits for that engine, and for a whole lot cheaper than OEM. Likely you will need to replace the solenoids of your 3 wire motor with the relays and wiring harness for...

Mercury Ignition Coil Replacement for P/N 336-4528

Amazon has a new one for $120. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N6D93VU?tag=picclick0f-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1 Newer Merc 9.8 motors have a coil that is more avail, but just as pricey. Coils are pretty tough. A used one probably works. A local salvage yard might allow you to exchange it...

1971 135hp tower of power upper shift shaft coupling destroyed!!!

The coupling is held to the shift rod with a pin. I do not know if one can push the pin out, in that tight place. The shift arm on the top of the shift rod is also held on with a pin. That might be easier to get out. You might (might) be able to pull the carbs and pull the shift arm up to...

Tower of Power Cold Start Questions

I had a Merc 1500 IL6 for 25+ years. I never flooded my motor. My recommendation: Primer bulb pumped hard, cold start all the way up, hold choke button (or push key) and crank her until she fires. Repeat until she starts. If she stalls, crank her without choke for a second or two. if no...

1996 Evinrude 88 - Drive Shaft Seal Should never leak under pressure / vacuum - right?

That looks to me like the driveshaft bearing might be bad. I would pull the carrier off and replace it and the seal and the oring.

1996 Evinrude 88 - Drive Shaft Seal Should never leak under pressure / vacuum - right?

A lot of those motors have a 2 piece driveshaft. The upper piece moves, simulating a leak in the seal, when the gearcase is off, but not when the gearcase is installed. Use a bicycle pump to pressurize the gearcase with just a few PSI. The leaking seal will be obvious. keep the driveshaft...

    Is 90hp ob enough??

A 14 footer with a 65 HP motor is likely overpowered. That is a different scenario than we have here. I also would expect the skier would be able to drag the stern around a bit, due to the light weight of the aluminum boat. The 90HP motor may need a different pitch prop for water skiing...

    coil check values

The specs I gave were for that coil. It takes a decent ohmmeter to measure the difference between a dead short (zero ohms) and .02 ohms. What issue are you having? The coils must have a good ground to the block, and clean connections from the switchbox.

2000 150 john 60* shuts down on take off.

crowleymarine says those jets are backordered. $17 ea Not a bad sign. Dougrussell says they have all of the various high speed jets in stock. $23-$25 each.

2000 150 john 60* shuts down on take off.

The Vapor separator is a sealed bowl like a carb bowl. It had an inlet needle, seat and float. It allows the vapor (if any) to be removed from the fuel supply and burned by the motor. The OMS pump and vapor pump create enough vacuum in the vacuum separator to keep the vapor separator filled...

    Transom wood removal and replacement

Not sure when you plan to replace the transom again, but it is too soon for a replaced transom to fail. You need to figure out whet went wrong with the original job, or I fear you will be doomed to repeat it. BTW - Wet transoms can last a long time in saltwater. Freshwater rots 'em out. Do...

70 HP Mercury won't run with rectifier connected to battery

As soon as you connect the stator wires to the rectifier without the ground and/or charging wire, and start the motor, it will blow the rectifier. So don't do that. if you read AC on the DC side of the rectifier, the rectifier is bad. if the stator is shorted to ground, thru the rectifier...
