I'd try to get a hold of a VP manual ASAP, for example Mercruiser tells you to mix a 10% mix of TCW-III oil (2qts) into a 6 gallon outboard tank with 5 gallons of gas and stabil to fog their EFI engines, even the latest ones in use. 50:1 is less strong than that (50:1 is only 2% so I can't see...
I use the Windy app and also the Univ of Conn weather buoys that are across LI Sound, also I look out from my back porch if I see whitecaps on the bay I stay lol!
Anything more than 10-15 mph is not pleasant in a small boat.
Well I have one of these:
so it's hard to say but if you have a throttle body for either TBI or port fuel injection, and you have sensors in the throttle body, it would seem that the fogging oil could foul those sensors. What does Volvo Penta say?
They are just parts pushers with no knowledge!
Dwell must be correct for the primary & secondary ignition system to develop the 25,000 bolts to fire the plugs.
I have the same engine, owned it about 20 years now and it’s always been a reliable starter as long as the ignition is maintained. The Prestolite distributor is very simple to work on. You need a tach/dwell meter and a timing light to get this working reliably. The dwell must be at least close...
that's about the ONLY way I'd ever get another old boat and even then, unless its an outboard and you can afford to repower with new, if its an I/O even Mercruiser discontinues old parts. Something to consider.
other than those situations I stick to what I said, USED not USED UP. Meaning, 5...
OK a few things, if you want to avoid an expensive mistake you MUST get at the block drains. So do whatever you have to do to gain access to those drain plugs, remove the rear seats, bulkheads, stand on your head, etc. Then poke each one with a pick to make sure it drains. Next disconnect the...
yes that will show that you are sucking air in from somewhere, could be the water tube/gaskets in the drive, pivot housing plastic fitting or even the impeller housing.
The other thing that can cause overheating is leaking cylinder head gaskets which requires a major repair, what happens is that...
If you're getting dripping from the discharge tubes, with the engine off, that means that your needle valves may not be holding and have to be replaced. This can happen even if the float height is correct. Now if its dripping when the engine is running but not when its off, it can be dirty or...
Yes now I remember. Getting the drive apart can be a trial if used in salt water, I used some bolts and 3 scissor jacks to get mine apart.....take a close look at this pic, I put one jack under the 2 bolts on the front mounts and one under each side of the long one that goes through the trim ram...
If its cracked it will be on the sides of the block, between the starter and the engine mount on the starboard side and same thing on the port side, also if you had pulled the intake manifold you'd see it in the cam valley. You might also see that the heads have cracks and lower edges of the...
There was a member on here or one of the other forums that had a similar problem. What they found was that a hole had rotted in the water transfer tube that is inside the drive. It can also be the rubber grommets for this tube
I think that many trailers have cheaper disc systems than Kodiak so those are the ones that don’t seem to last that long. The disc rotors if not stainless seem to rust pretty badly.
