    Fuel connectors

Standard Johnny fuel lines have female fittings on both ends. These fittings have plastic hose fittings. The fuel line from your tank would also need a female Johnny fitting, with the plastic hose fitting, provided you want to run it directly to the motor. They should be available pretty...

    rec gas and mercruiser

According to Wikipedia, Rec gas is alcohol free 90 octane, unleaded fuel. If so, it is fine to run in your 4.3 V6. I would not expect any additional performance out of the motor, without modifications. You might be able to modify the ignition system to advance the timing, however, since the...

Reverse Rack and Pinon Helm direction?

Well, I am not sure what your issue is. Steering rod goes into tilt tube on motor from starboard side, right? Steering cable travels up starboard side, right? Rack is parallel to stern, right? Steering "head" is installed with pinon gear facing up, right? Opening in rack casing faces down...

    1987 mercury exhaust question

The powerhead bolts to the exhaust extension. They have passages for cooling water into the powerhead, exhaust out and cooling water out of the powerhead. You might identify these passages when the powerhead is off. I think your assumption is correct that cooling water flows over the...

    Thru-hull oil drain

If the inspection officers never heard of a thru hull oil drain, then they are not as well experienced as they should be. Those have been around for quite a while. Aftermarket ones replace the drain plug on the oil pan and are routed out the garboard drain, when you want to change the oil.

    1987 mercury exhaust question

Not sure your question has much to do with your leaking powerhead-to-midsection problem. You should clean the mating surfaces and replace the powerhead base gasket, to stop the leak. Normally the exhaust gas and some water are routed into the exhaust tube, down to the prop exhaust ports. Only...

    Constant beep when i accelerate

Thermostat cools at idle and slightly above. Poppit then takes over. If you have had the motor from new, 15 years is a long time for the original waterpump. If you bought it used, it could still be 15 years old. It makes sense to replace the impeller, wearplate and 2 gaskets. If the base or...

    Starter issues

Starter windings are generally not fused, as they can take 150Amps or so. The solenoid primary winding is fused, but takes 10amps or less. So either you wired the starter thru the fuse, or you have wired the solenoid incorrectly, say a dead short when you turn the key.

    Mercury 84 & 82 90HP 2 stroke questions

Check fuel pump diaphragm. If they leak, raw fuel is introduced into the crankcase, flooding a cylinder and into the exhaust, which shows up in the water.

Boat not getting up to speed

The top cylinder has enough compression to allow the engine to run normally. That is not your problem. Spark must jump a 3/8 air gap. Are you sure about the resistance of those spark plug wires? That seems like very excessive resistance.
