    Running without muffs

Welcome to iboats On the Muffs or in the water? Running on the Muffs and Hose means nothing, the Raw Water Pump is there for the ride. Take the Pump apart and replace the impeller. On Volvos it is generally easy to replace the pump, unless you have to tear half the boat apart to access its...

    TCW-2, use it?

The oil mixed with gas goes thru carb, and while the Gasoline Vapourizes, the oil in the form of droplets, is carried along into the Crankcase where some of it lands on various parts to provide Lubrication. some of it flows into the Combustion Chamber, where some of it burns and some of passes...

    TCW-2, use it?

Straight from the Owners Manual of a 1957 Evinrude 35hp There were Outboard Oils back then. OMC and Mercury introduced their own Oils in the mid 1960s, because a lot the Brand Name Oils were really garbage and didn't meet the demands an Outboard placed on them

    TCW-2, use it?

First time I saw it was in the 80s, it was a colourless jelly that was clogging up a Fuel Pickup Screen in a Portable Tank. I figured it was from Gasoline decomposing, from old age.

If you want to be in Violation of some Laws and want to blow up your Boat, and have your Insurance deny any Claim, go ahead. There are reasons as to why there is USCG certification when it comes to Electrical and Fuel System parts.

    115 Evinrude Starflite Ignition question

Myself, I would back it off 4 degrees, see how it runs, and then readvance the timing in 1 degree intervals, listening carefully for Preignition/Detonation

    115 Evinrude Starflite Ignition question

Going to a Regular Plug from a Surface gap, places the Spark deeper into the Combustion Chamber, effectively advancing the timing, so the engine will idle a little faster. How it affects the Flame Front at higher Speeds I don't know

That would have been a 1960 or 61 Dockbuster. Horrible/Dangerous design that made it into Production and then the Sales Floor.

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Given a choice of a 300hp SB, and a 300hp BB, I will always choose the bigger engine, just for the extra Torque at low rpm.

A real Shame, a couple of hours time to drain the water out and then run it, the engine would have been fine.

    1968 Johnson Tr-10r 55hp wiring help

When did OMC drop the Ammeter? I remember our 1963 40 Electramatic having one, it certainly revealed when the Generator failed. Our 1965 90 Starflight also had one and it was pinned on "+20" whenever the Motor was above 1800rpm.

Replacing the factory Holley 500CFM(378CFM when flow rated like a 4bbl) 2bbl with the 4bbl, gave me another 500 rpm, which required a higher pitch prop to bring the RPMs down, which loads the engine higher, and reduces Hole Shot. The tiny Primaries help a tiny bit at preserving the bottom end...

Most Q-Jets were capable of flowing 750 CFM, at a 1.5" pressure Drop. However I doubt you engine needs more than just over 525 CFM @5000 RPM. I am giving the Engine a VE of 80%, which I think is Generous Holley does market a 4175 650CFM Spreadbore Part #80402 for Marine use Here is mine
