    Also keep in mind this cuts both ways, yes the Bravo is stronger & shifts better but replacement cost is nearly twice as much as an Alpha. Comparable to the cost of a VP drive. I’d say with a small block V8 with good maintenance you shouldn’t have premature failures with the Alpha.

    Are you sure that the carb you bought is a marine carb and not a modified auto carb? The Mercarb 2bbl is actually a modified Rochester 2GV carb. Marine carbs will have certain differences like a nipple for the fuel pump overflow, inverted vent “J” tubes and no fast idle cam like an auto application.

    The old style OMC factory controls have no button but you just pull the whole control outward and you have throttle only and can manually set fast idle. So yours is probably like that.
