2 stroke motor went underwater - what to do

Saltwater or freshwater? For either, you must leave it underwater until you can work on it and completely fix it. Saltwater immersion means complete disassembly. Saltwater often ruins electrical parts as well. Starter would need disassembly and cleaning, in addition to engine block...

    Pontoon in the snow

I have pulled my boat out in December, where I had to break 1/8 ice on the creek, with the hull. It cleans the bottom and removes that nasty antifouling paint build up.

Can I convert a 5 terminal ignition switch to a 3 terminal ignition switch on the dash.

You will also need to wire the power to the starter solenoid thru the neutral safety switch, located in the control.

Hot cables and starter when cranking

Are those battery cables are 35 years old? They could be corroded under the insulation. If cleaning the ends doesn't fix it, new cables could be in your future.

Can I convert a 5 terminal ignition switch to a 3 terminal ignition switch on the dash.

Normally the motor harness connects directly to the ign keyswitch. An inline fuse is installed on the battery wire at the motor, to protect the engine. This keeps the wiring simpler and less prone to failure due to corrosion or wiring component failure. I am not sure what year Merc you have...

changing out a power trim transom bracket 1984 Merc 115 hp inline 6

You could go on a parts list site like crowleymarine and see if the midsections for the jet and prop versions are the same. In your first post you said you swapped the midsection to get one with PTT. You really meant you swapped the midsection and transom bracket, right? It is too bad...

Can I convert a 5 terminal ignition switch to a 3 terminal ignition switch on the dash.

I have an electric choke set up and preintregrated mercury trim. I looked at universal laynard killswitches and they have the two Ms on them and since grounding out it what kills the engine, could I not run the m wires to the killswitch without running the to the ignition? I suppose you could...

Can I convert a 5 terminal ignition switch to a 3 terminal ignition switch on the dash.

Modern Outboards need the 5 terminal ignition switch. They run on an ADI system, where grounding the "M" wires kills the ignition. They also need an electric choke function.

    Transom gap?

I think you should fill the gap. If you tighten the transom bracket, with a gap in it, the pressure of the bolts could break the transom bracket. The same with a collision, the uneven pressure on the transom bracket could break it.

1984 Mercury inline 6 115 hp outboard - power head removal

There is no gasket between the gearcase and midsection. The crowleymarine website may give you a hint where the PTT solenoids go.

    Boat seating

Captain-type chairs are pretty available, and for a wide ranges of prices. I would not think you will have any issue finding something you like. There are sales on them in the spring, or over the winter.

90 HP early 80's 6 cylinder starting without key

Gee, you might have mentioned the water in the boat. Motors run really bad on a water/gasoline/oil mix.

4.3 Mercruiser with only 3 water drain holes.

V engine blocks almost always have a drain on each bank of cylinders. Your 4.3V6 should have a drain under each exhaust manifold.

    polypropylene fuel tank question?

I have not had good luck with silicone. The Permatex that GA showed is what I used. Thanks GA!

    Question about 850 mercury thunderbolt

What year is that motor? Early 70s models have battery powered CDI. Later models have ADI ignition. You will not see voltage at the coli(s), on those models, until the trigger "fires" them. A regular voltmeter will likely be too slow to record that voltage.

    polypropylene fuel tank question?

Permatex makes a product that is not soluble in gasoline or water. Autozone carries it. Smear it on both sides of the gasket and tighten the screws as best as you can. You are using a gasket, right?

    Mercury 150 serial number?

most gearcases from 135/150 HP V6 motors should fit that motor. BTW the powerhead looks like my 1993 135V6. It has a gearcase from a 1988 150HPV6 on it.

1976 Merc 65HP - Filter Inlet Cover help needed

Epoxy glue would be your best bet. Sand it lightly and clean it with acetone, then apply the epoxy.

    IDLE Adjustment

Mercs in good condition do that all the time, when they are out of tune. However, it doesn't mean your motor is in good condition. try some fresh 50::1 fuel mixture. If that doesn't get it, you will need to clean the carbs and rebuild them with new floats, gaskets and inlet needles and seats...

    1995 150 Johnson Bogging down

That motor likely has a water cooled voltage rectifier. They are pretty reliable. I would check the wiring to the tachometer and other gauges for dirt and corrosion. Chine walking is much more difficult to analyse. Hull could be pushed past design speed. Is boat HP higher than max rated...
