    Paint over antifouling paint

Antifouling paint cannot be painted over with anything but more antifouling paint. If you want to apply an enamel or polyurethane, the antifouling paint must be completely removed.

90 HP early 80's 6 cylinder starting without key

Have you checked your fuel pump? If the diagram has a leak, it sill allow raw fuel into the crankcase. This causes cylinders to miss at low speed, but run at high speed. As for overcharge of the battery, the charging system is at best 9Amps. It should not seriously overcharge the battery...

    1977 Mercury 150 Inline 6 fuel problem

You will want to make sure the link and synch are done properly, or you could damage your motor. Do you have a service manual? If not you might get one. A OEM service manual is vastly superior to an aftermarket one. Remember, the idle pickup timing is adjusted using the brass collar which is...

    Johnson controls

You could add a kill switch to the dashboard. It will be a lot cheaper.

90 HP early 80's 6 cylinder starting without key

Generally an Inline 6 will not flood when cold. So that is strange. I also think it strange that 3 coils would go bad. Ground wire corrosion could cause weak starter and since starter spins slow, spark can be weak. Maybe check ground wires on the coils and switchboxes for corrosion. On...

    Clinton 7.5hp fuel filter?

Just try Sears Parts. They have replacement parts for obscure stuff, both Sears brand and other brands.. They might be able to fix you up.

    Need a Bilge Heater

I attached a 40W heating pad to the oil pan. The bay water never froze, but the air was below freezing quite a bit. Of course, I wanted the engine to stay warm, for those cold starts during Striper season.

    Clinton 7.5hp fuel filter?

Sounds more like a fuel pump. Sears may have parts, since the Ted Williams outboards were often Clinton. You will need to match the year to have a chance to get the right part.

90 HP early 80's 6 cylinder starting without key

Sure, put a clip lead on the starter solenoid yellow/red wire, and apply battery power to it to crank the motor. BTW, that motor has two switchboxes that create spark, each for 3 cylinders. Perhaps one is bad?

Who makes bimini tops which connect to the windshiled?

Those tops are also known as Navy tops. They will be no higher than the windshield. A "camper" top is essentially a bimini top that has been connected to the windshield. The connector piece can be clear plastic. As far as I know these are custom made.

1978 Elpto 150 hp not firing

Dan, Is that a V6 or inline 6? If a V6, it will have ADI ignition. You should disconnect the two black/yellow wires at the switchboxes and see if spark returns. If so, your ignition key is likely malfunctioning. Since Merc did not make an inline 6 150HP motor in 1978, it is either the wrong...

Exhaust Power Valves for 2 cycle outboards?

Some PWC engines have them, some motorcycles have them. Were they ever incorporated into an outboard?

Is the engine mounting position correct?

The answer is maybe. You might post a picture of the antiventilation plate and it's position versus the bottom of the transom. Bennett or other trim tabs might help more, as they will tend to keep the transom from digging in.

    Antifouling paint on bronze fittings

I have a bronze water inlet for my livewell. Each year I paint it with an ablative antifouling paint (copper based), when I paint the bottom. At the end of the season, the fitting has heavy barnacles on it, many times what the rest of the hull has. The paint is compatible with bronze, and...

What is correct PTT replacement manual release valve for '93 Merc 135L

I bought a Merc Oring kit (P/N 811612A 3) for my power trim unit. It came with a Manual release valve, which doesn't seem to fit my unit. The P/N for the Manual release valve is 893929A 01. Anyone know the P/N for the manual release valve in the Oring kit?

Trick to removal of PTT lower Swivel Pin

I am working on a '93 Merc V6. It has the two trim cylinders plus a single tilt cylinder. I am trying to remove the lower swivel pin, to replace the leaking oring seals. I have removed the cross pin, but the lower swivel pin is stubborn. Any tricks to avoid beating it and possibly breaking...

2006 150HP Optimax surges when accelerating, and then dies

My neighbor's Merc had water in the fuel over the winter. This created sediment in the vapor seperator. The high pressure fuel pump was locked up, but the boost fuel pump was fine. We replaced the high pressure pump and the fuel and air pressure readings on the fuel rails were about 80 PSI...

40% efficiency gain from dual prop bow thruster?

I read an article in BoatUS Magazine on bow thrusters. Their claim was that dual prop thrusters had 40% more thrust for the same wattage, as single prop thrusters. The 40% loss in the single prop thruster was because of the power needed to spin the water. Sounds like crap to me. Anyone have...
