    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

just wanted to make sure you knew it was different. I got this one from Michigan motorz - https://www.michiganmotorz.com/5-7l-4-bbl-vortec-cast-iron-intake-manifold-1996-current A lot of people sell the same one- it works well has excellent midrange performance and throttle response

    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

Did you get the intake too? In the photo it looked like you had the pre vortec 12 bolt intake vs the 8 vertical bolt Vortec intake you need to fit vortecs. Intake gaskets are diff as well.

    Trim not going down

Or the wiring from the switch take the switch out and test for continuity when you operate it. Wires could be chaffed in the throttle

    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

GM used dished pistons on both 5.7 and 5.0 , really all their engines, so your stock compression ratio of 9.0-9.4 or so is based on stock type dished pistons. If you have a non stock dish volume that would affect compression but otherwise you should be ok.

    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

305 and 350 intakes are the Same. cant help you with casting numbers but you could at this point upgrade to newer vortec heads and gain about 30-40 hp. You also need a vortec intake as they have a different bolt pattern but i think worth if you need heads anyways. these guys have a couple of...

Overhauling my 1988 MerCruiser 4.3 ltr. engine

Its to keep hot oil off the underside of the intake runners. I wouldnt put something that can drop rust or pieces into the engine. Either take it off or replace it. I suspect you can grind the rivets off and run without it just fine

Alpha One - Stainless Upper Steering Pin or Not?

Post a picture if there is no wear where the steering lever clamps on and the shaft seal surface is clean and nit pitted u can reuse it. i think some of the stainless shafts may be problem prone I've heard good things about the ones from NuWave marine in nj , i think they are like $100.

Replace or Repair, where to start?

    1992 Bayliner Cuddy 3.0 Mercruiser

I ran two different pitch 4 blade michigan vortex aluminum props on mine (sea ray 170/3.0 engine) 16” for skiing, 18” for cruise and tubing. Was a really good value in an upgrade, they were like $125-150 each.

Fuel burn with 5.7 LX mercruiser, 24' Boat

On a 383 spinning to 5800 and warmed over id do the 750 Cfm 1410 the OP with a stock 5.7 600 cfm/1409 is fine. I found better results with my idle transition on my 1409 fattening up the idle mix a bit. Best idle was fairly lean. i did goto a bigger accelerator pump nozzle that cured a bog in...

    Plug gap and Compression

You are likely just fine as AD lays out. Likely with a warm engine before doing the test your numbers will come up a tad, but if its running fine dont worry about it. biggest issue you may run into from an over heat is blowing a head gasket you would see water in the oil.

Replace or Repair, where to start?

This is the intermediate shift shaft you are looking at the bottom of it in the center of photo 1 . look on top of the cavitation plate this should be facing forward when the controller is in fwd, check its not bent and properly engaging shift mechanism hanging off bottom of bell housing. Make...

    Cracked spark plug porcelain-timing?

Normally with detonation you will see specks of metal aluminum from the pistons on the insulator. if they are present likely detonation is happening i wouldn't add initial timing. Boats are under different loads and more detonation prone than other motorsports, hence marine applications use way...

Replace or Repair, where to start?

Before anyone yells at me for posting another site i tried to find the parts drawings here on iboats but they come up as no parts available with no drawings .... http://www.boatparts.ca/mercruiser/upper_gear_case.html number 43 is the intermediate shift shaft which is held in the upper with a...

    Plug gap and Compression

As pointed out 150 is new . Usually you want to be above 125, when it gets down to 105 or so you have a dead cylinder. were these done with a hot engine? Does it run ok or are you hunting down issues ?

Replace or Repair, where to start?

With an r, mr , or alpha gen one drive when you split the halves of the drive you need to make sure the lower is in fwd and the shift arm in the upper is facing fwd when you out the two halves together. there is a short splined shift shaft sticking out of the lower, i think you need to turn it...

Merc 4.3l timing question, BTDC mark

You re just seeing the timing light adding and removing ten degrees of advance hence why it goes to 10 BTDC with no advance in the light, and zero with ten degrees advance. mist stock balancers have only TDC and what ever base timing is. So you use an advance light to program in ‘X’ advance...
