    Lead Paint in 1976

Just like in homes lead paint becomes an issue for kids when it’s ingested or inhaled typically from old painted windows and doors Where the paint wears and is chipped. As long as the paint isn’t flaking and your kids don’t eat it you’ll be fine.

help with running surge brake lines

I did the same thing when I replaced my entire brake system too. Works just fine for the last 5 years. In a perfect world you’d have hard pipe for most of it the long hose is a breeze to install and works just fine

    Chunks on Spindle

If the inner race spun on the shaft you may have to stake it to get it to fit tight. done that several times over the years To make a bearing race fit after a bearing failure

    Mercruiser 3.0 Exhaust ?

Those are idle relief ports that the exhaust comes out of when the boat isn’t moving. I suspect with a 3.0 you could block one side off as only 3.0 the water and exhaust only seems to come out one side when on the muffs , which is the side you circle. Put some duct tape over it and take it out...

Swapping inner transom plate on a mc 1 to alpha 1

Copied from another thread As long as the MC1 (what everybody incorrectly calls a 'pre-alpha') has the round trim senders on the gimbal ring, the later inner place will bolt directly onto it.

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

You made my point for me ... merc no longer offered new 4 bbl engines in 4.3, 5.0, 5.7 sizes. Not that carbs wouldn’t make that much power, but rather because few would pay the $ for an mpi that made similar or same hp as a 4 bbl carb version could. yes if you look at merc remanufacturing you...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

Again memory is off a tad 4.3 vortec2 bbl is 190 hp.. the 230 4 bbl you reference is non vortec rating, mpi you reference is a vortec, merc never Made a mpi non vortec so Not apples to apples

    Can't find 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Pre-Vortex intake manifold

https://www.michiganmotorz.com/edelbrock-performer-intake-manifold-1985-p-4370.html this is not a brass lined cross over so won’t work if you are in salt and raw water cooled

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

I don’t want to add fuel to this cause I’m happy with my carb and your happy with your mpi, but the hp comparisons you give are not apples to apples. These are the 2 bbl engines vs mpi As when merc started offing mpi they dropped the 4 bbl. versions. You have to give some one a reason to buck...

    Considering a swap

If you upgraded to something like this https://www.michiganmotorz.com/vortec-marine-silver-package-1967-current-replacement-p-58.html these are about 295 at the prop, I think your current engines are 200 hp. each You’d gain almost 200 hp total. i got one of these packages and swapped over my...

    4.3 to 5.7 swap

I swaped a 4.3 for a 5.0 if youre boat was sold with a sbc if think you will find what I did- the needed 4&1/2” in front of the engine will be there and the stringers had a 12” long pad so that the 4.3 and sbc side motor mounts would both fit. I bought a partial Engine package from Michigan...

    Considering a swap

X2 swap them for newer Vortec engines. What carbs are on your existing ones, you will need new intakes to work with Vortec heads, can use a marine performer for a few extra horses.

    New 205ss crownline-is 200 HP enough?

best advice offered, get the boat with or close to the highest hp offered for that model year. I have yet to own a boat with too much power. 200 hp with a lower pitch prop and 4 blade for water sports would work ok if you don’t mind swapping props and you really like the boat otherwise. i used...

Mercruiser 5.0 TKS vs 4.3 MPI

sure the 4.3 mpi is great , and likely on paper will get better gph... but ok may be 3gph better fuel consumption. Most people’s use you will never see that difference in your wallet. I’m in the NE US so our season is very short 3-4 months. My total fuel bill is like $800 per year. for me the...
