    Well ,if you do not know it can be tough.-----Look it up on say a 1996 8 HP same pump essentially.----Different housing same repair kit.-----The factory kit comes with very good instructions.----I can post the part # if you can't find it with a bit of effort.

    What colour is the float bowl gasket on the 30 Evinrude ?----Black or brown?----If brown , it will stand up to modern fuel.----Just run carburetors dry when motor is not in use.

    You spray some WD40 on there.----Wait for 11 minutes push them out with say a finishing nail.-----Importanh to keep track of where they go.

    For best starting just ignore the " start " mark on the handle grip.----In neutral turn the handle grip till it hits the interlock !!

    Is water 8" above the impeller ?-----The copper water tube MUST be installed in the grommet in the exhaust housing BEFORE the lower unit is installed.

    Try the plugs in different holes.----The procedure is called indexing.----Use a torque wrench and do not exceed 17 FT LBS.----4 sparkplugs and 4 different holes , you should be able to come close.

    There are some spray on gasket softeners.----Yes the block is aluminum.-----In the hands of a careful worker even a sturdy paint scraper will remove gaskets with no damage to aluminum.----Brushing some oil on the gasket may soften it up.

    Pop the wire link out off the SLOW SPEED mixture needle ( white nylon piece ) set it 1-1/2 turns out.----Start motor and adjust on the boat in the water.----Slide white nylon piece off the needle.----Slide it back on pointing to the right and horizontal.----Re-attach link to the knob.
