    Removing impeller

the issue is that some designers make it easier on mechanics/owners some do not. Since Volvo has been using these types of pumps for many years you'd think they'd figure out a way to make it easier. The difficulty in servicing I/Os and the availability of modern outboards that are not difficult...

    Removing impeller

Why do they have to make a simple job like this, so difficult? On my old Cobra its a 15 min job! Impeller kit is $40! for OEM parts... On these the impeller housing is at the tail end of the upper gear housing, 3 bolts you remove a plastic cover, 3 more bolts and its off.

    Impeller

Are you using OEM parts or aftermarket? Because using OEM they last at least 3 seasons in my use...

    Removing impeller

I seem to recall that someone makes a puller to remove impellers. That said I’ve never removed mine for winter storage and just replace every 3 years or so.

    Volvo Penta Stiff Steering

Glad you got it. I’m surprised other people have not reported back on this. I still have the original cable and helm unit in my 32 year old boat. I think what helps is lubing the power steering piston rod with Evinrude triple guard grease every season. This probably takes strain off the cable...

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

Almost seems like the did that to keep the water from draining right on to the starter.

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

just as an aside, I have seen those 90* drain fittings on older Merc 4.3s as well again probably when they used the bigger starter. I'm guessing the shorter block casting of the 4.3 put the drain right next to the starter vs on the V8 there was more clearance to not need the 90* fitting. Here's...

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

I think what it might have been is some of the 4.3s with the old style large direct drive starter/front brace used an additional right angle fitting for that drain because the starter or brace might have been in the way of removing the plug if using the standard plugs. Mine is that way, I'd...

    Winterizing

I don’t my mind dragging out the cover and supports because I’ve saved a bunch of money not shrink wrapping it over the years. I bought the cover back in 2007 and it’s still in good shape...

Overhauling my 1988 MerCruiser 4.3 ltr. engine

Interesting glad I did not have that problem lol! Only harmonic balancer I ever had to change was on our '98 4.0 JEEP six.

Overhauling my 1988 MerCruiser 4.3 ltr. engine

Agreed I have not heard of cranks breaking in 4.3s, yes the crank may not be as strong as a V8 due to the offset even fire crank but never heard of this or even read of it once on any of these forums. A bad hydrolock? When I took mine apart (just the top end) the cam and lifters looked like...

    Plywood cover for open bow

I think if you use a center pole support with a piece of plywood triangular shaped to spread the load and 2 transverse bows like I use for my winter cover that would be fine. Note to all, upgrade those pathetic bilge pumps that the cheap boat builders use. 500 gph is nothing, you should have 2...

    Winterising Q

When I've done the Cobra every year I manually drain the raw water intake hose, and remove the water nipple drain on the side of the pivot housing (just like the V/P SX) and let it drain with the drive down. Then take the raw water intake hose and fill it with either -100 PG antifreeze or a...

    Winterizing

looks like you got it just in time. We haven't had a real winter in a long time (3 years) but I still put my winter cover on, I built a support system for it that takes about 1/2 hr to put up, and then I can work on it in the winter if we get warm days. I made that center ridge beam hinged over...

    Winterizing

mine from the same end. What engine's in the 'Bird? 326 or 400? Years back there was a guy in my town who put a 'Bird front clip on the body of a Camaro we used to call it the Camarabird, with the Camaro tail lights being the give away...

    Winterizing

Ahh now I know what you’re talking about! No that’s fine as long as you are shrinking it or use a properly supported cover like I do. You have almost the same boat as I do? Four Winns H-190....And do I see a ‘68/‘69 Firebird poking out there? When they re sew it make sure you check the wood...

    2004 Grand Cherokee stalling/shutting down

I go back and forth between the 2 older jeeps we have, the '98 which I bought originally for my wife, she didn't like it, so I drove it about 10 years, then got a hankerin' for a Hemi, bought the '07 Grand with 5.7 Hemi, that satisfied my urge for power, then passed the '98 to my son when he...

Does This Trailer Look Big Enough For The Boat?

I'd look and see if you can get a longer tongue for it, seems kinda short, but glad you made it home ok.
