5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

I do the same, the flame arrestor gets surprisingly dirty. I do like my stone age engine very much vs MPI (points distributor, Quadrajet carb, mechanical fuel pump) so much that when I need a new engine I'm going to find a reman 4.3 so I can keep using the old style mechanical pump etc, intake...

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

Here's the original and a Sierra that I picked up because the Carter was back ordered for a while, but I did get the Carter as a spare. They're cheap enough! For some reason the V6 pumps mount upside down relative to the V8 pumps.

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

Agreed the only thing that can happen is the diaphragm can dry out and crack and leak. But you'd know that because there should be gas in that yellow tygon tube. BTW, on mine the port that is supposed to allow gas to flow into that tube in the case of a leak, was plugged up with sludge etc from...

Volvo Penta 5.7 AQ271C Electric Fuel pump coversion

PS if you do wind up replacing it keep in mind it’s probably a Carter Marine mechanical pump. If you get the part # off the pump and look for it on Carters website to see if they still make it you might be able to buy it from Summit Racing or Jegs on line. Don’t pay the price Volvo Penta wants...

5.0L MPI Idle Air Control Valve OEM vs Aftermarket

That is great information for anyone who has an engine with at IAC valve! I am amazed by what Merc Volvo and OMC charged for parts they bought from other suppliers. OMC/BRP wanted $230 for a Carter marine mechanical pump you can find at Jegs or Summit racing for $85-90. Figure out who made it...

I’m agreeing with Scott mechanical pumps are more reliable & cheaper. My first one lasted 30 years!

    Gas/oil sheen run-off from motor

nope that's your raw water pump that's leaking. Just water. a sheen in the water is going to be some kind of oil or gasoline.

Looking for bare engine block with pistons

Looks Good! I will put up pix when I get the coaming pane off on the starboard side, this job is a pain because of how FW attached them, stainless studs with nuts on the inside, but of course the do not come off. When I did the port side I had to cut them with a hacksaw, took me hrs. This time I...

    OMC manual/service/how to

Agreed I've had the 4.3 Cobra for 18 years and used the factory shop manual many times. Paid for itself very quickly!

    Gas/oil sheen run-off from motor

While you're looking at the carb, are you sure that the choke is opening? It should be a Holley carb either a 2 or 4bbl and they have electric chokes. If they don't have a constant 12V source the choke will close due to the tension of the bimetal spring and will greatly enrich the fuel mixture...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

Yes its not part of winterizing per se but I'd be surprised if its not in another part of the maintenance manual. Don't they specify replacing the bellows? I'd be shocked if they don't. Every 5 seasons normal maintenance. I know older Volvo manuals did say to remove the drive at the end of each...

Where to pick up power for electric choke?

What you will find is that the AC tap puts out both AC volts and DC volts, but the choke will work fine that way.

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

well...that can eventually cost you...big time...and its all in Volvos & Merc's maintenance schedule. if you never remove it, and the bellows gets a small leak...it will rust up the gimble bearing and u joints, and then...it may NOT come off...that time...you were lucky....I'd say in freshwater...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

I didn't at first either but when I realized I could do it myself first I built a stand with casters then a few years later I bought an outdrive jack that makes it easy. If you boat in brackish/salt water its a necessary part of maintenance to avoid problems. I've been able to make the same...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

The 2 stroke mix is pretty standard for EFI engines and has been recommended for a long time. After you’ve done it a few times you have your own routine for winterizing and it goes faster. I do the engine one weekend and then pull the drive the following weekend and check the bellows, gimble u...

Where to pick up power for electric choke?

OMC and Volvo engines all used the AC tap on the alternator. This is advantageous because it only puts out voltage when the engine is running. Otherwise as soon as you turn on the ignition the choke will open up, probably too early for good drivability. I was going to convert my Quadrajet over...

    Re; Broke spark plug

That joint between the elbow and the manifold is something you have to monitor, if you see rust trails on the outside it is time to drain the manifold and inspect the water ports for rust and chunks of cast iron coming off and pitting on the sealing surfaces. I installed these 3 seasons ago...

Switching from Volvo Penta 4.3 to Mercruiser 4.3

I have a Teleflex control for my OMC which I have yet to install. But looking at the instructions what I learned is that the OE controls usually work only on that make of engine. OMC and Merc seemed to have controls that were specific to their set up. But, if the Volvo boat came with that...

    Winterizing a 2020 4.3L duoprop

You really should be able to get a workshop manual. It does not explain how to winterize in the owners manual? In any case you need to get all the raw water out of the raw water side. Heat exchanger, impeller housing, coolers for p/s and fuel and hoses. If I had it in front of me I might be...
