    The QD models all had needle bearings on the rod journals.----Needle bearings on upper and lower journal.----Bushing on the wristpin.----That wrist pin bushing was the issue.-----Unless someone installed pistons and rods from a 61 / 62 or 63 model.----Those used the same wristpin bearing used up...

    I am very familiar with these units.----Have a few of them for parts / rebuild.----I would bet the shift piston bore is not in good shape.-----Mayne the oil pump and filter screen need to be inspected as well.---It will shift with #90 weight oil in it.

    Likely lower unit was removed with control in neutral.----During the work the spring pushed clutch dog into forward.----So here we are.----There is a tutorial on the site to deal with this very common mistake.

    Correct it is spring loaded to go into forward.----Test run with another prop.-----Or the bore for the shift piston is not smooth / clean.-----Could be debris preventing clutch dog from going fully into forward.

    That looks to be " homemade " to me.-----A Tecumseh 4 stroke engine on an outboard midsection.------Motor from the 1960's and midsection from the 30's or 40's.----Doubt you will find any manual or information.-----You may find something for Tecumseh under a V70 model designation.

    Sounds like you are talking about small oil recirculation hoses.----They should have been left in place when oil tank / mixing unit was removed.----Sorry ----I do not do pictures and even the factory manual is vague on these.

    The cowlings go way down to or below the water line on these things and are plastic !----They look really nice in a showroom.----Ask about warranty.----You never know.

    I would say that the structure underneath is rotten / broken.----This has allowed it to sag.-----But you could buy a sheet of 2" insulating foam.----Shape it like a dome or similar.----Then fiberglass over it.-----Your location ?----Does it get a lot of " snow load " on it by chance ?

    Some will argue.-----Pull the head off on the starboard side.-----I do not believe you will like what you see.---If I am wrong then a head gasket is cheap.

    The V-4 crossflow was a staple production engine.---The 100 HP was only offered in 79 and 1980.------All about marketing.-----Same pistons fit a 1974 and 1998 model 115 HP.----I do not understand why the design of top piston ring was not changed.

    The 85 HP before 1979 had a 3-3/8" bore I believe.----The 88 / 90 /100 /115 /140 all had a 3.50" bore from 1974 to 1998 models.----Your compression numbers are not encouraging !

    The high speed jet ( orifice plug ) must be clean.----It is found in the bottom of the float bowl.
