    That leakage may be normal for a 2 stroke.----Was there any water in the oil when you drained it ?----Pressure test can be done to see if there are any leaks.----Lots of videos on the tube on lower unit seal kit installation.

    Motor must be running to shift properly.----Or if stopped on land / trailer the propshaft must be turned when shifting this motor.

    Trim limit switch stops motor from trimming too high.----Sending unit has nothing to do with motor operation.

    Buy from your local dealer.-----They get to know you.----I do not buy wiper blades for my truck from a big box store.-----If there is an issue I deal direct with the owner.----No need to go through the " you need a receipt " scenario at the faceless store or internet !!

    Have you seen any of those driveshafts snapped at the o-ring groove ?

    The 84 and newer did not use the o-ring.

    The solenoid sounds like it is working.----So charge the battery .----Load test the battery.---Check battery cables.----Inspect starter.

    In some states you can get fined for not having a working kill switch.

    What happens when you push the clip in place???---With the spring as it is without any cutting.-----With the little bump going in that hole.-----I have seen a few with the clip installed wrong over the years.----Always said that a novice forgot how it came apart.

    I have not seen pictures of this 5 HP Gale !---But It is not like the pictures of the 12 HP.----Find You Tube video of this job on a 5-1/2 HP Johnson / Evinrude up to 1965.-----Will show what needs to be done.
