    The folks at BRP have been around boats for more than 1 weekend.-----This unit can be fully submerged for long periods I am sure.----Many ocean liners run with engines fully below the waterline.

    Using a bit of ether for starting will NOT destroy a 2 stroke.

    Find ---clarke troller----It was a little outboard where cylinder block was fully submerged.----Eliminated the need for driveshaft / gears / water pump.-----I do not see a problem with this set-up to do with it being submerged !!----These people are not a bunch of dummies !

    With tiller handle at full throttle is the butterfly ( throttle plate ) horizontal , yes or no ?----Take a look at that plastic pin , is it broken , yes or no.----Present the facts to make progress on your motor.----Sounds like it might be running on 1 cylinder.-----Start motor.----Pull one plug...

    Shift switch on the motor.----Not the neutral start switch in the control box !

    Is 4000 RPM all you can get out of this motor ?-----It should run to 5500 RPM.------Did you get 5500 RPM last season ?

    A few $$$ for a new diaphragm might do the trick.----But if money is not an issue then a complete new pump will do the trick.----I usually inspect stuff before throwing parts at a motor.

    Yes , the S.L.O.W. existed in 1992.----Triggered by overheat.------Need to learn how to use a timing light to pinpoint the loss of spark I think.-----Check that shift switch again.----I suspect spark was lost on 3 cylinders.

    The L-Drive is not the most popular item in the boating world.-----You might consider something better.

    Putting new rings on old pistons / worn ring grooves is a mistake !----Pull cylinder head now.-----Head gasket is cheap in the big picture of owning a boat !

    ??----Why do you think an o-ring would be hard to find ?-----Should be easy to repair the thumb screw so that it tightens properly.----I would concentrate on that easy repair !
