    A lean sneeze.----Open low speed mixture needle some more.-----And make sure the throttle plate is closed at idle.-----And make sure throttle plate is not opening too early .-----Simple fix in my opinion.

    Nope ----It is the principle of refrigeration.----A liquid ( gasoline ) vaporizing needs HEAT.-----It gets that heat from the carburetor and intake manifold.-----That is why they cool down.-----No cooling water near the intake manifold.---Not caused by a blown head gasket.

    ???----You can not pull this out by using 2 bolts in those 4 holes !!!!----You use 2 pieces of 5/16" threaded rod to pull bearing carrier out !

    If it runs with key pushed in the fuel pump is working just fine.----If the motor sat for 5 years with mixed fuel in the carburetors , you need to clean the carburetors.-----Do not run the motor without cleaning the carburetors !

    Oil for my 40hp 68 Evinrude

    Just use a product called ----HI-VIS gear oil.----Available at any boat shop / BRPP / Johnson / Evinrude dealer and perhaps even that " China Mart "------No point skimping on oil as saving a few beer tokens is not worth it.----Gears / bearings are expensive.

    Some suggest to remove that clipper circuit.----Or bypass it as a test.----Perhaps test the rotor and distributor cap as well.----Your location ?
