    There is no difference.----Except for any minor changes ( paint color ) that occurred mid production run.-----------Install a new water pump impeller and test the overheat horn before launching the boat.

    No such thing as " too much compression" on these.-----Charge the battery.-----Have the battery load tested.----Take starter apart for inspection of brushes.-----Do an ohm test on armature.-----No money spent to do this inspection !!!

    Gearcase compatibility - V4 Crossflow question

    The driveshaft spline count has been the same on V-4 and V-6 ( also those V-8 1986 to end ) motors from 1973 to year 2005 or so.-----But the length of that spline and seal arrangement on end of crankshaft changed.-----So if you back off all the bolts 2 turns does flywheel turn easier ????

    It should work.----Might have to change out the pinion on the starter.

    Is it a solid alarm ?----Have you replaced the water pump impeller ?----Running with VRO in service and tested ?----Yes , it could also be the fuel restriction alarm.-----Try bypassing or taking the 10 micron filter out as a test.

    Carburetors cool down when running.----Liquid fuel needs heat to vaporize !!

    An evaporating liquid needs HEAT.-----Therefor the manifold cools down.-----There is no cooling water near the intake manifold !!

    Fuel pump is working very well if it pulls the bulb flat.------You have a blockage from bulb to the bottom of the tank I think.

    Pull the head for inspection.-----Head is warped ( they all are ) , so refinish it on a piece of glass with emery paper before installing the new head gasket.

    1989 70, lower unit bolts

    You need 6 bolts and one more for the trim tab.-----They are a 3/8-NC thread and stainless for 4 of them.----One is a 5/16-NC thread.------One is a 7/16-NC thread.-----Measure the gearcase and add proper length for thread engagement.

    More than 12 years ago but the following applies.----If you are testing on land the motor must be running or if stopped the propeller must be turned for reverse shifting.

    Revisit carburetor work.----Check to make sure nozzle gasket is in place.----Make sure low speed needle is actually moving in and out.----Make sure low speed circuit is clean.----Any powerhead gaskets ( exhaust cover ) leaking ? -----Should be a simple fix I think.

    Use 24:1 on that motor.------I often say it ---" oil and lubrication in 2 strokes is not well understood "------Or perhaps post here in what you know about bearings and what happens to the oil that is mixed with the gasoline.

    Johnson bearing housing seal assembly.

    If you heat the bearing housing the bearings might fall out.-----Or be easy to push out with say a socket.

    Mix at 24:1-----But you will get many different opinions on oil and lubrication.----No needle bearings so they need oil for cooling.----Need oil to set up the " hydrodynamic wedge " in these bearings.
