    No ----the primer valve " clicks " when it opens.----It does NOT function the same way as choke flappers.----Best learn how this primer works.----It will help you diagnose issues and boating will be more fun when you understand how things work.

    Do this test.---Mix gas and oil at 50:1 in the tank.-------Bypass the VRO pump.----Operate the motor with your assistant using the manual pump.

    Test I did years ago.-----Same boat , same afternoon ,same style stainless props, same motor 115 HP Evinrude.-------19 "--5800 RPM --54 MPH.---21"--5400 RPM --54 MPH.----23" ---4900 RPM --54 MPH.-------Speed of the boat did not change.

    There is no CHOKE on this motor.-----The electric primer valve opens.----Fuel is then sprayed directly into the air going through the carburetor while cranking.-----Far superior to choke flappers !

    But when these engines are docked there should be no water in them.-----A mystery as to why this occurs when engine is running or humid conditions while stopped.-----Hopefully they are using better alloys today.

    Your motor should start right up.----But what are the actual compression numbers ?----And have you confirmed that the electric primer valve is OPEN while cranking ?

    I have a similar 50 HP Yamaha parts motor.----Fresh water.-----Exact same corrosion issue.------Never saw this damage on Johnson / Evinrude from same bodies of water !!!!----So there must be lots more of the Yamaha motors with the same issue.

    All OMC products from OMC run on 50:1 from 1964 on.------Your 85 Evinrude 15 HP needs to run at 50:1 and 100:1 was a board room blunder.-----Get rid of that 100:1 sticker tomorrow !!----Service bulletin came out years ago to revert to 50:1.
