    That looks like a 1973 model.----First year of " Powershift II " ------But not an electric shift.----And in my opinion there is nothing wrong with electric shift on 1969 to 1972 models

    When trouble shooting an outboard , a compression test is step #1---always !!

    If it ran with no oil you may have damaged the motor.----Compression test needs to be done.----Mix gas and oil at 50:1 until you are sure injection system is working.

    They will run fine at 0.028", or 0.030" , or 0.040" gap is not that important.-----Those compression numbers are not good.----Test again with good gauge and fully charged battery.---Or pull cylinder head.----A head gasket is cheap.-----Check the flywheel key.

    Just 14 bolts to take the head off I think.-----Do it.-----Head gasket is cheap.------When was water pump impeller changed ?-----Does fitting for tell tale hose come off the side of the block or the top ?

    Remove bypass covers to look at pistons and rings.----- Motors with 85 PSI are likely ready for surgery.

    Remove flywheel.----Remove rotor and distributor cap.----Clean and set breaker points.----Inspect anti-reversing spring.-----Clean distributor cap.----Assemble test for spark.

    Agreed----Need to find out more details.----Any oil in the lower unit?----Stopped going forward out on the lake ?----Was lower unit off for water pump work ?
