    The magneto on your 82 model is ultra reliable.----Electronic.-----No point in going to the breaker point ignition used on the the 74 / 75 / 76 models.----You would also have to swap flywheel I think.

    Any discoloring of paint on the cylinder head ?-----I suggest a compression test on any motor that is new to you, if only for future reference..----Avoids you spending money on a dud as is often done.----Seen it many times.----Just because a motor " runs " does not mean it is in good condition !!

    Of course it won't run with top signal firing the bottom coil.------It proves that BOTH coils are good.----I would say install a new powerpack.----Easy to do.

    Actually it is 2 coils in one part.----Switch the orange blue to bottom and orange green to the top.-----Test for spark with a test device.-----My wild guess is that the powerpack failed.

    On your 150 HP 2000 model do you tilt the motor up with fuel in the carburetors ?-----Could be leaky float valves.-----Do you see any fuel leaking from carburetors when you really squeeze the primer bulb?-----Hose from the vapor pump going into the airbox ?
