    I see that item marked as #26 or #27 on my diagram.------It may in fact be trapped in the assembly on the end of the spring and it can not fall out.----Be easy for me to check this out.

    The parts diagram shows a part ( clutch spring retainer item #27 ) not sure where is goes.----You might look for it in your motor in your parts cleaner or on your shop floor.

    Once again I say that good trouble shooting needs to be done.----So which plug is fouling ?----A black plug indicates that conditions in that cylinder are colder than the other cylinder.----Colder conditions due to a number of reasons.-----Too much fuel , low crankcase compression, low cylinder...

    I would remove propshaft.-----Push shift rod all the way in.-----Re-install propshaft.-----There will be spring pressure to deal with.-----Then adjust shift rod and test again.

    Some motors are shy when running in a hose.-----And not all volume / pressure from hoses is the same.----And water under pressure has a lot of air dissolved in it.

    Are you testing in a bucket.----If so the water level must be 8" ( 20 cm ) above the impeller.

    I think if you put the " lanyard " wires together you will not have spark at the plugs.

    I took a 95 model 6 HP apart a while ago.-----Bottom crankshaft seal was kaput.----If there is one , then there might be more motors with the issue.----Sorry I can not see , feel your motor.

    Remove cowling.----Run with timing light hooked up and observe flashing light to see how spark behaves.-----Test both cylinders.---Clarify.----First you say lower plug is fouled and top plug fine.----Then with new plugs the top is fouled ?----Checked the thermostat?----Perhaps replace fuel pump...

    The earlier V-6 used 2 pumps in series.-----Look it up for a 1982 or 83 model.------150 / 175 / 200 and 235 HP.

    Not sure what electronic wizardry is on these motor these days.------You are right the neutral switch prevented starting in gear.-----But earlier motor had a SHIFTSWITCH on the motor linkages.----It cut out spark to 3 cylinders momentarily to make shifting easier.----Your E-tec shop if you can...

    On many motors you can not find a sheared key with a timing light !

    If you put fuel into the plug hole and it did not " bark like a dog " then you have no spark or the flywheel key is sheared.----Should be an easy fix.-----But that is only my opinion.

    Correct OMC built an opposed 4 cylinder.------It was the 4"60" model.-----Heard one running at the Constantine meet years ago.-----Wonderful piece of machinery.
