    No special oil required in those.------It is not an electric shift unit.-----Pressure test this gearcase to find leaks.-----Do a compression test before spending any money on this motor.----What electrical issues are you looking at ?

    1996 Johnson 150 no spark

    The 25 / 35 HP models ( 3 cylinder ) show a different stator for rope / recoil / armstrong start models.----The 9.9 / 15 HP 2 cylinder 4 strokes use the same 2 stators as the 3 cylinder 25 / 35 HP models I believe.

    What year?

    Looks like a 1990 to me.--------Put a new impeller in it before launching the boat.----Make sure to change gear oil.---Use a good oil as lower units on these are not robust.

    Do not rev that motor in neutral.----A new $5.00 diaphragm is what I would install in a simple fuel pump.

    Raise motor 1/2" or so and test run.----I would use a piece of hockey stick.

    If water got INSIDE the engine then bearings may be pitted from corrosion.

    Armature / magneto plate has nothing to do with crankshaft endplay !!-----This motor is heavy compared to what ?----Likely lighter than many newer motors !!

    One well meaning you tube presenter was trying to take tapered dowels out of a V-4.-----Hammered them in the wrong direction.----Then in another video he tried the same on a V-6.-----So yes some are good and others not so much.-----Careful if you are unsure if these guys really know their stuff !!

    A 1955 model 25 HP is / was a well built motor.-----It is 65 years old.-----I would not leave the dock without a complete tear down and inspection !

    They all rev up in neutral.-----Will do that running on just 1 cylinder.----That sort of testing means nothing !

    Evi 2 stroke 2 HP Motor.-

    On Johnson / Evinrude a 1/4" screw in aluminum is 60 / 80 inch lbs....---Does not matter if it is a 2 HP motor or a 300 HP motor.

    Fuel pump diaphragm 331307 is easy to replace.----Factory part at less than $5.00

    Hard to believe that someone would blindly replace all those very reliable ignition parts !!----Time to do some real trouble shooting I say.

    It has had a new impeller put in I hope.-----Why would anyone install all those ignition parts ???----Was there no testing done ?

    Steam turbines power a lot of generators.-----Put up to 1,000,000 horsepower into the generator.-----They ( turbines ) are less than 40% efficient.

    As usual------What you paid for an old / discarded item has nothing to do with what new parts for it cost.----Be patient as a parts / donor motor may fall into your yard within the next year.-----Lots of these left the factory as electric start.-----Lots of kits were installed by dealers years ago.
