    Remove one of the drain plugs on the middle carburetor.----Operate manual fuel pump.----Gas should pour out.----Running with a blocked carburetor will starve 2 cylinders of gas and OIL.----So do the compression test again.

    The VRO pump runs off PRESSURE pulses from the crankcase.----The wiring is just for the " no oil " alarm.----If you premix in your tank there is no need for this electronic module.----Best option is per post #3

    The elegant / simple thing to do is to mount a 2 nipple pump.----This pump mounts directly over the pulse port on the intake manifold.----Leaving the VRO unplugged has no effect on starting.

    I often tell folks to install a new impeller on recent purchases.----Something that has been proven over 50 years of work.-----A very common reply is ---"my water pump is working fine "------Folks just do not realize that many motors do not have an overheat warning horn, or if it actually works...

    Those motors need a new impeller about every 3 years.-----Your choice to gamble.----It can be hard / difficult to teach all the novice boaters about maintenance these days.

    Put your own timing marks on for top and bottom cylinder.---Start motor and use the timing light.

    Check spark.----Sounds like it might be running on 3 cylinders.----Stop running this motor.----If it was a blocked carburetor it would starve 2 cylinders of gas and OIL .-----You should install a new water pump impeller too.----Test the hot horn as well.----Running with 50:1 mix or something else ?

    Proper Way to Test Compression on Non-Running Motor

    That is classic damage to the original coils.----All the motors with those coils from the 1950's / 60's / 70's will have that happen. ----Used on the 3 / 5.5 / 6 / 7.5 / 10 / 15 / 18 / 20 / 25 / 28 / 33 / 40 HP motors.----Every boat shop that works on older motors will have them on hand...
