    Test run with another tank ?----With compression numbers like that on my gauges , your motor would be coming apart !---Perhaps remove the bypass cover on the 95 PSI cylinder to look at piston and rings.

    Take starter apart for inspection , cleaning and ohm test.---Possibly new brushes.-----Charge and load test the battery.-----Now most folks will reply that there is no issue with these things.-----But little to no money spent to check these items !!

    Running with a 3/8" fuel line ?-----The fuel pump runs off crankcase PRESSURE pulses.-----There may be an issue there.-----My opinion is that your compression is not good.----Test with another gauge.

    On a good ignition system the spark can jump a gap of up to 1/2 " ( 12 mm ) so do that test.-----Checked the flywheel key ?

    The amplifier does not put a steady 12 volts to the coil !-----That is NOT the way it works.-----Have you had the flywheel off to set the breaker points at 0.010" ? ----Check the anti-reversing spring ?-----Cleaned the distributor cap and rotor ?

    On the idle are both throttle plates CLOSED at idle ?-----They must be CLOSED.-----On the hard starting , is the choke properly adjusted ?---Check diaphragm on fuel pump.------In order for this motor to start properly you need the following.----A good starter motor , so take your starter apart...

    Nope----The carburetor on that motor simply fills due to gravity as the tank is higher than the carburetor..----The is no fuel pump.----There is no diaphragm.----It is just an elegantly simple set -up.-----Not sure why you are having this issue.----Fuel is drawn from the float bowl when air goes...

    Motor just moves / works against water.-----Motor really does not know what is behind the boat.----The boat operator notices that the result is a slower boat.----Motor works the same.

    Not related to your issue, but have you installed a new water pump impeller in the last 5 years.----If not it needs one.-----Do a spark test.------Good spark will jump a gap of 3/8" ( 1 cm ) on a test device.----Report what you find.

    Once again----There are no high speed mixture needles on a 1972 model 50 HP.---Johnson / Evinrude used FIXED high speed jets on most big outboards starting in about 1962 !!!!

    The screen on the pump is all you need.------Thousand and thousands of motors ran that way with no issues in 1960's ,1970's.

    Pretty overpropped.

    Myself I would stick with a 1980's model 88 / 90 HP Johnson / Evinrude.-----A wonderful , easy to maintain motor.----Of course my opinion does not matter.----I rebuild those V-4 OMC with no need to look at a manual.-----

    ??----Right ---I think it was clearly stated that these pumps run off crankcase compression.

    A 15" pitch might be the correct choice.----But step #1 is to make sure motor is in good condition.---And make sure boat is not waterlogged.-----And I know you said it " runs amazing "
