    I would fix this ----Check the shift rod and connector now.----Install a new water pump impeller too.----Then you are ready for the lake.-----That motor does NOT have overheat warning or a " too hot " shutdown feature.----It will run till it is destroyed !

    I would first remove lower unit and check shift rod height.----And if you just got this motor you should install a new water pump impeller.-----Install a new impeller about every 5 years.

    Yes.-----just pull up on the lower shift rod ( turn the prop ) and bring the upper shift rod down as far as it will come down.----The notch on the shift rods MUST line up with the hole before you put the bolt in.----Shifting will be correct when you do it this way !!

    Well-----You should never have to do these wild alterations to floats.----Something is wrong with you float adjustment procedure !

    Charge battery.----Load test battery.----Take starter apart for cleaning.-----Ohm check on armature commutator to ground.-----Possibly new brushes.

    Start with a compression test , post the numbers.-----There should be no reason for spending beer tokens on new carburetors !-----Is oil injection in service / bypassed / oil output tested ?----Time to do some simple trouble shooting.

    Have your assistant drive the boat.----Remove airbox cover.----Shine a STRONG flashlight into carburetor bores.----See / compare amount of fuel coming up the main nozzles for all cylinders.------See if it is a fuel issue at 3/4 throttle.----Oh----It will rev up in neutral on 4 of 6 cylinders so...

    Sounds like broken piston rings.----An oh so common failure.----Pull cylinder head on the low compression cylinders.----Should tell the story.---Lucky you if it is a blown head gasket.

    Sounds like the CLASSIC broken piston ring issue.---Pull that cylinder head.----Lucky you if it is a blown head gasket.----Every one of these engines will suffer from broken piston rings.

    There is no way you would see exhaust or a flame there !!----You would be seeing fresh fuel / air mixture coming out of the pulse limiter.

    There should not be any flames coming from the crankcase !-----A loose flywheel magnet is indeed a problem.----Pull the flywheel with a puller using 3 bolts.
