    Fact-----You test spark with a SPARK TEST device.----Forces the ignition system to produce maximum voltage up to 40,000 volts.-----It will have a gap of 3/8"-----The only way to test spark on a motor like yours.----And when you buy a near 30 year old motor you need to install a new water pump...

    The hole in the cap is there to release the pressure in a controlled manner when you loosen the cap.----It should not be covered.

    Measure the height of your transom.-----If it is 20" high then the motor is considered to be a long shaft.----A 25" motor is extra long shaft.
