    You mis-understand.-----Sparkplugs are not used when testing the condition of the magneto.-----Do you see spark on the plugs , yes ?----Do you see spark when magneto is forced to produce maximum output ?----Do you see spark jumping a gap of 1/4" on some testing device ?

    The stator charges the battery.----The stator is not involved in making spark on this machine.

    Test for spark with the distributor assembled and flywheel on.

    I would bet you saw spark on the plugs.----Not a good test.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more ?

    They put a very good and very durable plate right above the clamps that hold motor on the boat.

    A google search says that gearcase is used on 1988 to 1990 ? models.------Some years they used 2 different gearcase numbers.

    Step #1 is to determine the pitch that you need to fit the BOAT and the conditions.---Then see a dealer as they can help you.

    Some might argue.----That is normal and typical of a 2 stroke engine.-----And also proof that lubrication in a 2 stroke is not well understood.

    There are broken / loose pieces inside the engine.-----Remove the bypass cover for the cylinder in picture #2.----Likely a broken piston ring.

    Looks like scrap metal to me.-----Likely rusted needle bearings and crankshaft.

    A lot depends on what gauge you would be using etc, etc.-----So what numbers do you see on your motor ?-----What is the reason for your compression concern ?
