The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen.

Beauty, our 31 year old mare matriarch, died sometime during last nights storms. :( She is lying on a mud flat where I almost got my 4X4 Kubota stuck trying to get to her. She will have to lie there until the ground firms up enough to get a back hoe in there. Of her three offspring Sugar, age...

    AUGH! I'm hit!

It was bound to happen eventually. Out on the porch for a smoke and to watch the hummers fight. Zinnnnng, BANG! One of the little beggars nailed me on my right temple. He dropped but didn't hit the floor before he recovered. It was a lot like getting hit by a mad marshmallow. :)

The wonderful pain transfer machine (C&P)

Got this from my daughter. A married couple went to the hospital to have their baby delivered. Upon their arrival, the doctor said that the hospital was testing an amazing new high-tech machine that would transfer a portion of the mother's labor pain to the baby's father. He asked if they...

    '88 JohnnyRude 60 vs 70 carbs

I noticed in the OEM Manual instructions for servicing the carbs that the carbs on the 60 have a low speed mixture adjustment and the 70s don't. That makes me think they are different model carbs. Anyone know if the venturi diameters are different?

    The three envelopes

Aspeck's thread about the CEO reminded me of this old one. The Board asked a CEO to resign after several successful years and one bad one. They agreed to have him brief his successor before he left. When the replacement arrived, he handed him three envelopes, numbered 1 through 3. "Do what...

    Sum Of All Fears travesty.

I read very little fiction. Tom Clancy is the exception. I just watched a film called "The Sum Of All Fears", supposed to be based on Clancy's book. Why do those Hollywood hacks always think they can improve on master novelists? Very little resemblance to Clancy, and nothing like the...

    Johnson '86 48SPL to '88 60 swap questions.

Howdy, all. I am repowering RED SKY from one Johnny to another. Three questions: 1. I have found a 1989 Service Manual for the 60 and 70hp triples on eBay. It seems to me that I recall that the triple loopers were bored out and redesigned in 1988. Would that '89 manual work for my 1988 60? 2...

    World's best brownies.

What's yours? Mine use Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie mix. Substitute 1/3 cup burgundy for the 1/3 cup water then add a couple of cups of black walnuts or pecans, or one cup of each. Man! These are not to die for, they are to KILL for.

    Need some ideas.

The love of my life is turning 70 next month. We were married for 30 years, been divorced for 22. We have 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She had remarried but was widowed 5 years ago. We have since grown very close again. I want to give her a special gift. I think our...

    What is happening here?

Last night as I sat here at this 'puter I suddenly noticed a very slight vibration coming into my feet from the floor. It was about the right frequency to be an out-of-balance motor running somewhere in my house, somewhere in the vicinity of 10-30 Hz. I went and investigated every motor driven...

    Say, Skinnywater; Tires for ML430

I currently have Michelins on Ole Blue (275/55r17) but she will need new shoes soon. There seem to be a lot of brands and models offered: Michelin, Dunlop. Hankook, Bridgestone, etc. For traction, quiet ride and longevity what do you recommend?

    Swapping Johnnys.

I now have a 1986 Johnny 48SPL and a CMC 130 PT&T on my Boston Whaler Striper 15, RED SKY. The engine runs great but the CMC leaks down when trimmed on plane, so I have to keep tweaking it up to maintain good trim. I have just bought (on eBay) a 1988 Johnny 60 VRO with PT&T, plus all controls...

    Fix an "unformatted" floppy?

For years I have saved correspondence and important papers to 3.5" floppies. I tried to recover an important letter today and my 'puter said that disk was not formatted and wouldn't read it. All of the other floppies were okay and readable. Is there a way to "repair" that floppy?
