    And….fixed! She’s pumping really well. I ran water from the thermostat hole down the brass hose for quite a while and it seems to have cleaned whatever was in there out. She’s in great shape now. Thanks to everyone for all the help!

    I looked at it earlier. It looks impeccable from where the lower unit is off. Would it be obvious if it was melted or do I need to take the power head off?

    I bought this motor as parts motor. It had good compression and turned over nicely, so I wanted to make it a runner. I bought a second parts motor for the recoil and put motor #2s lower unit on motor #1 thinking both of them can’t need new seals.

    I’ve not touched the power head. If I shoot water with my garden hose through the brass hose it will come out the hole on the back of the gear case assembly where the motor pees water. Would this happen at all of the wrong gasket is on the ph?

    I still can’t get this thing to pump water. I ran my impeller in a bucket with a drill. Pumps good. I took the thermostat out of the motor and ran it for a minute still not pumping water. I ran a hose through the brass tube and I get water from the brass tube to out the back where it pees. That...

    I swapped lower units and I swapped the recoil starter assembly. I also rebuilt the carburetor. Motor starts and runs well. Still not pumping water even in the new lower unit. I pulled water pump out of the other one in hopes it was the LU, somehow this impeller is just toast. New one coming...

    Water pump was really easy to change out, so I thought rest of the motor might be pretty straight forward. Would it be a big deal if i convert the fuel connection over to an omc one?     Sounds like long term I might actually be better off with the mercury? Right now I’ve got 4 OMC motors and this mercury. Trying to get my second fisherman up and going then I’m going to purge a few of them.

    I’ll do that soapy water test. I put new nylon washers on last night and still had leaks today. Probably 99% chance my prop seal is ruined. Has a big glob of fishing line wrapped behind the propeller and a bunch of sand in the lower unit.

    I put J8C instead of J6C plugs. I’ve read both are the standard plugs. Someone with more knowledge than I will know which is accurate.
