    1976 25 hp, no spark

I recently purchased this 1976 Evinrude 25 hp motor. It has great compression 140/140, I replaced the fuel lines and new fuel pump. It’s getting good fuel to the carb. I can’t get it to start. I sanded and set the points without luck. I know it has electric start and is missing some parts for...

What size motor to get for my boat?

Perfect. I bought a 25 ho motor tonight. Has 140/140 compression. I’m excited to get this one up and running.

What size motor to get for my boat?

It does. Boat is a 1980. I found that by looking up the hull #. I also looked up the specs on Google and I didn’t find a boat that matched my specs to boat.

What size motor to get for my boat?

I should’ve been more specific I do apologize. My boat is a 16 foot Jon boat. The base of the transom is 54” wide and the beam of the boat is 70”. I will need a long shaft/tiller set up.

What size motor to get for my boat?

I am back to the drawing board finding a motor for my boat. I own a 1980 smoker craft 16x54. I have no clue what model it is or what the max horsepower recommendation is. I’ve looked around online and I haven’t even found a boat that matched the specs for my boat. Wondering if anyone had...

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

That’s great news because I’ve got all that stuff with this 15 hp. I don’t think that will be too hard.

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

How reasonable/hard would it be for me to turn a short shaft 9.9 into a long shaft 15? I’ve got all the stuff here a have found a few non running ss 9.9s. I’ll move on from this motor gladly but thought this might be a decently viable option before throwing in the towel.

Put it up on marketplace as parts motor. 120/120 compression still just checked

I think you’re ultimately correct. Probably more work than it’s worth.

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

I’m wanting to pull the power head to replace the lower cowling. The center bolts from the bottom side are broke off. I’m unable to remove the power head until I get these removed.

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

I successfully removed the 3 bolts holding the power head onto the cowling. I snapped 2 of the 6 bolts that you’re talking about. I can take better pictures if it helps

Unfortunately they’re both from the underneath side.

Weird situation, looking for advice/how to repair

Latest update on this motor: my lower cowling came in. I ended up breaking 2 bolt heads off trying to remove the power head. I’ve never had a bolt head break off before, and unfortunately it looks like these are in a really bad place for that to happen

    Lowest compression you’d buy

Racer your responses and knowledge are unparalleled on the boards in my opinion. If you had someone just starting out today knowing literally nothing about outboard motors and they wanted to learn what would you recommend? (My guess AOMCI + iboats+ YouTube + reading service manuals) I would...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I appreciate your insight! Well thought out response. I’ve got a good compression tester because it’s read well on ny other motors. I had similar reading on both cylinders, so I probably should’ve assumed compression was ok: I’ve read I want compression 100/100 or better l, and this 25 hp was...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I meant to say starting not selling.

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I talked to the guy that bought it. He said started right up 2nd pull and he’s gonna sell it I was reading yesterday and looks like I made a big mistake selling it. I didn’t realize compression can’t effectively be tested until motor is running. I’ve always run a compression test before I’ve...

    Lowest compression you’d buy

That’s basically exactly what I assumed. This week is I begin the process of trying to put a different motor back together.

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I’m glad buyer got a good deal then. I had little to no use for motor, so I was happy to pass it along for cheap. I’d have liked to got it running, but it wasn’t in the cards. How low if compression is with running? Like at what point does the power head need rebuilt?

    Lowest compression you’d buy

I bought a motor this week for $50. I didn’t do a compression test like I normally would because I didn’t have my tester. Got it home, had a bunch of acorns/fur under the hood. I even found acorns and fur in the lower unit. Motor turned over and shifted freely. I did a compression test and I was...
