Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

Good to know. I have always tried to err on the side of caution when filling anyway but the large bold warnings in the mercury manual had me spooked about the slightest overfill.

Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

Quite different. The side facing the bow always seems to read way way way overfilled. Maybe +1-2" on the dipstick 😂 I am also finding the manual's spec of 4.25L doesn't seem to be accurate. It was reading right on full before the oil change and I sucked out ~4.7L. At 4.25L replaced yesterday...

Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

I seem to be getting different oil readings on the front and back of the dipstick. If the hashmarked section is facing the stern the oil reads within bounds, if the hashmarked section is facing the bow it reads high. Just finished an oil change and not sure which one to trust.

Better muffs for Alpha One drives?

Thanks. Crappy thing is I don't live near marinas and Amazon has an inflated price right now. Probably just give up and order them. New-to-me boat winterization fun.

Better muffs for Alpha One drives?

Yes they are vertical to match the water intakes. I timed it with the engine off and the 5 gallons empties in about 2 minutes or just less which I am not sure is enough time.

Better muffs for Alpha One drives?

Have a mercruiser (4.5) for the first time in a few years. After I drain the block of water, I plan to run it on muffs for AF but the muffs I have don't form a good seal and leak badly. I am worried about losing most of my AF before the engine gets to temp even if pre-warmed. I currently have...

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

Update for anyone in a similar situation. Called McGard and you can get them to send you new keys by sending them a picture of the pattern inside the lock that the key connects to/matches. Replacement keys were inexpensive ($14/ea) and shipping is reasonably quick (3-7 days to Canada). Now I...

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

Question on this; does the socket go inside the wheel lock or over the outside of the wheel lock?

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

Thank you all for the ideas. Checked the engine compartment and everywhere else on the boat for the key or registration card and no dice. Currently trying to get ahold of the previous owner, then turning to dealership and McGard themselves before attempting destructive means of removing it.

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

Well poop. I had no idea something like this existed. Any way to get them off without the key?

What is this thing on my Alpha One where a nut should be?

I was expecting six nuts to remove the drive and just found this on my new-to-me boat. Any idea what it is and how to remove it? 2019 or 2020 Merc Alpha One Gen 2 for reference.

Those with MPIs what do you do with your leftover storage gas mix?

First winter with an MPI (Merc 4.5), old boat was carb’d. Curious what you all do with the left over gas storage/fogging mix?

How would you seal these screw holes?

Had a Maxum 1800 with wet foam. Since then I have become paranoid. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How would you seal these screw holes?

It sits in a slip 6 months a year, covered with sunbrella fabric. That said covers are never 100% weatherproof and we do get caught out in rain from time.

How would you seal these screw holes?

Pilot holes already exist, just resealing. This was my thought as well; I was going to use 4200 and fill the holes in the deck prior to installation, but you’re right I should probably coat the screws too.

How would you seal these screw holes?

I’ll be resealing the screw holes in my deck shortly. Carpet snap screws are pretty straight forward, however there is a composite panel over my gas tank cavity with the screw holes being under the panel. I am concerned if I coat the screw and install most of the sealant will come off on the...

Boat construction question on gelcoated underdeck surfaces

Fair. It’s a 2020 glastron gts that I am trying to familiarize myself with. Should be the sam construction on modern four winns as they’re all rec boat holdings now. Looking at the ski locker it follows the rough shape of the stringers and hull but the inside corners are quite rounded out so...

Boat construction question on gelcoated underdeck surfaces

When a modern boat has a fibreglass stringer system and gelcoated under deck surfaces like a ski locker, engine compartment etc what am I looking at? Is the stringer system laid in the hull then everything is glassed over and gel coated? Or is it more modular, and the gelcoated surfaces are part...

    Help understanding survey conductivity ratings

Hey FleetAdmiral. As far as I know she’s been at dock with covers on in the summer and stored in a heated area in the winter. We actually saw a 2019 of the same make/model and that had been abused and it was very evident from the condition of the interior. Sinking hadn’t crossed my mind but the...

    Help understanding survey conductivity ratings

It’s a 2020 Glastron GTS 205. Thank you for all your input. We are away this week but I can upload a copy when back home. As I’ve dug more and more into the survey there’s a lot pf evidence it’s a bad copy paste job, so I am not even sure exactly what is this boat and what is from the old...
