Lol glad it's not just me. I have to vacuum water out of the bow all the time even with proper weep holes to the bilge.

Looks identical to my pulpit that has lots of stress cracks. I'm glad we have such similar boats so I can piggyback on occasion!

I forgot to take a pic, but while finishing paint stripping yesterday, I found a 4 foot section of repair that was done poorly (long spider cracking underneath on the white gelcoat). It was a painted-over repair and the stripper took it right off. Also, some spots appear to have had some sort of...

I started using Klean-strip paint & varnish stripper yesterday, and it's working okay. It makes some paint bubble up within an hour; it's taking a few coats of stripper, but it'll save a lot of sanding. The oven cleaner seemed too harsh; it dripped and left yellow streaks on the white gelcoat...

    Polishing or paint

I just did a section of my gelcoat up to 1500 wet before switching to compound. It looks like a mirror with no swirls using a random orbital sander and a rotary polisher. Using a foam interface pad on the sander helped too.

I've been doing more fishing than working on the boat lately, but I did finish the fore hatch. I used a 1/4" Taco marine hatch gasket under the lid and sealed everything except the glass with 4200. I also wanted to see why the PO painted ugly green on the side of the boat, so I removed some of...

It was tricky making that part because I'm replicating what is cast or extruded normally, but paying $1K for a nice hatch seemed crazy. And that is a good point on the windows, I was more worried about weatherproofing and didn't think that far ahead honestly. I wonder if blue tape will be...

I finally had a few days at home to work on the boat last weekend. I cleaned out the rotten fore hatch wood with a dyna-file, then stuffed it with new strip of 3/4" ply and PB. I found a great local glass supplier, but they only sell 10 pound bags of cabosil, so I bought a quart of pre-made PB...

Work has sent me all over the place the past month, but I've worked on some parts in the parking lot as time/weather allows. I got some free stainless steel drops at work. It's 304 SS, and while I'd prefer 316, I'll take free material any day. First step, stick welded the beveled topside with...

    New member, old boat question.

I bet that nice bilge was a molded part that was glued in or it took a LOT of sanding.

I got a couple days of boat work in this weekend. After shop-vaccing the engine bay and cabin, I started ripping out all the carpet, but will need a second hand for finishing that job due to hardware requiring a backer screwdriver on deck. Next, by hand/foot, started removing the rotten wood in...

Thank you for that sir, I have a can of the zinc chromate primer ordered now. I'll stick to rattle cans, as I'm abhorrent at painting. This project is gonna hurt my wallet, already paid $300 just for new thru-hulls. Boating and fishing are just so addictive though...

I'll go on with the anodized aluminum for replacing at least the rectangular, screwed on plastic dash pieces. From what I've read, the proper prep for painting anodized is to clean with dish soap, follow with an etching primer, then paint. If anyone has experience with this to help me prevent a...

I think you're on the right track then. If no other transom wood is rotten or beginning to rot, I'd replace what's there. By the way, I'm restoring a boat very similar to yours, so I hope you keep posting as our boats may have a lot in common. Not to diverge from your topic too much, but where...

It's hard to say without pictures. Once you start cutting out the rot, you should be able to see more of what you're really dealing with.

This is a little forward for my project, but how well does aluminum hold as dash material in a saltwater environment? I can get some free 10" × 1/8" anodized aluminum pieces (drops) from work next week and may use that. Also, does paint stick well to anodized?

I went home this weekend solely to work on the boat. I put all new tires on the trailer, got the trailers lights working, and added some clearance markers as well (forgot to snap a pic of those). Next, I replaced this broken plexiglass piece for the cabin door: I replaced with it HDPE, but...

I'd love to see a thread of your boat if you've taken any pics along the way! I like the layout too; having an aft cabin is also a great feature too. I plan on leaving the back open for fishing. Hopefully in a few years I'll be able to safely fish a few miles offshore.

Yup, this is my second full resto, just bigger this time. I only paid for the value of the trailer in case I decide to use this boat for parts.

For documentation purposes on this exact boat (and porn for the rest of yall), I took a lot more pics. If anyone ever needs a pic of a tape measure held to any parts on this boat, feel free to PM me. Starboard side: (Starboard cabin): Head: For fu, here's some...
