I cleaned out the thermostat housing with lots of flaky rust, raw water hoses, and pulled both risers. I managed to poke a hole through one riser while cleaning rust, so it's time to replace both risers. The manifolds weren't bad at all thankfully.

I also began fixing the bow pulpit I cut out the inner skin with a cutoff wheel and die grinder in the corners I began fixing the badly cracked spots by glassing back to original thickness on the inside Then I glued two layers of 1/2" ply into the part with PL Premium.

I also began replacing the old plastic thru-hulls with 316 stainless ones (all above the water line) after getting stung by a yellow jacket making a nest inside a broken thru-hull. I also replaced the forward bilge pump and float switch, then test fit the hatch over it. I'll use neodymium...

I started up the motor again last night with the new freeze plugs in; only took a pump of the throttle and it fired right up. The temp came up to about 160° when I could see the thermostat open up via the gauge. However, the manifolds were still too hot to the touch and steam began to come out...

Yep you are correct, thanks for the help again. The threaded freeze plugs on both sides are missing, but that's a quick easy fix. Hopefully I didn't burn up the new impeller, but I did verify that my temperature gauge works LOL

With a helper cranking and me spraying gas in the carb, the motor fired right up and I let it idle at about 800 rpm. However, I noticed water pouring out of the drain hole and the temp came up to 180° degrees pretty quickly, so I had to kill the motor. I appear to be missing some plumbing, so I...

That's easy enough to try tomorrow! I'll glance at the built in fuel filter too; it's probably not the worst thing for me to be a little familiar with a little bit of everything on the motor.

I changed the impeller, installed a new drive belt, and changed the lower unit oil (was a little dirty at the bottom, but no metal shavings or milky oil). I added some fuel to my gas tank and tried starting the motor, but I got nothing. It fired on carb cleaner, so now it's time to work through...

My newer battery turned over the engine great, no more grinding noise; the other battery can still be a house battery. I also replaced the key switch and cleaned connections on the solenoid. Compression on the cold engine was: 1- 157 2- 162 3- 145 4- 145 5- 125 6- 178 7- 155 8- 175 I'm a bit...

The original two owners are passed, so a 14 year old battery in the engine bay was my only clue. I'm just surprised that the engine and drive weren't locked up!

I pulled the spark plugs and squirted a little oil in each cylinder and let that sit while I replaced the blower and its hose. Then I pulled the drive belt (needs replaced anyway) and water pump assembly off the harmonic balancer. The motor turned over easily with a wrench, so I cranked it with...

I'm really used to working on 2-stroke outboards and small engines, so I have a bit of a learning curve here. Did you jump the solenoid, or does this motor even have a solenoid? Twenty bucks is a great deal on the compression tester, was it accurate? I do have a spark tester, and actually...

Hahaha! I made that username for some game as a kid, and it seems to be the only username I can reliably remember when logging in anywhere. I guess I should make breakfast on the boat during sea trials for good luck!

I've started going through my electrical system while the cabin is disassembled. The engine bay was/is a mess, but I repaired a burnt pin in the engine harness and isolated and pulled through obsolete wires. Once I cleaned the main connections, I was able to figure out and temporarily label (all...

I vacuumed the excess walnut shell and added two layers of gelcoat over it all. It really soaked up the gelcoat; I didn't expect to use a gallon, but I'm happy with how it looks. The non-skid also hid the 1708 and other glass work that I sanded some but didn't fair.

I scarfed in the little pieces of wood with PL Premium on Tuesday. Yesterday, I added PB filets to the wood and tabbed them in with 1708 on one side and CSM toward the walkway side of the deck. I also cut out holes to add storage under the entrance step. The wood inside was bare, so it was...

Thank yall! I got to take my bay boat out to the end of some jetties on a nice day recently, and not losing any fish on the rocks was great. That and losing a couple of nice redfish last week has been a great motivator for this project. I didn't get quite as far as I'd like today, but still...

I glued in the last little piece of deck (forward) and then used a ton of PB getting the deck ready for glass. I really thought I had enough resin to knock out the tabbing and one layer of 1708 over the deck in one big layup, but I fell about 6 ounces shy today. I already cut out the pieces...

The stringers and bulkhead are glassed in now. I used two layers of 1708 over the stringers and one layer of 1708 over the bulkhead. I then pre-wrapped floor supports in CSM, glued them in with peanut butter, added filets, and finally used 6 inches of 1708 tabbing to connect them to the...

Yessir, many others have used the PL on this forum. It gave me good working time in the hot cabin instead of fretting about glass/PB kicking off too early, but like you said I have to wait for a couple days to make sure it gasses off. Then I'll glass it all over. Around that bulkhead I was able...
