    135 Black Max opinions?

I'm considering buying one of these cheap/not running and rebuilding it. It's a '93. I'm told it was run on straight gas. Supposedly it turns over but 2 pistons/cylinders got hot. I guess that since it didn't lock up then the crank should be ok. So, in theory, I would just need to clean up all...

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

I assume you mean the lift cylinders on the engine. My boat is in the water so I'd have to hold my phone out over the water. Not sure I want to do that but I will see what I can do next time I'm down there.

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

    Thanks again.

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

Thank you. So...turn full CCW (if it's not already), fill to bottom of threads, replace fill screw, leave knob at full CCW, and try the tilt up button. Correct? Then check fluid level at full up? Then leave the knob at full CCW while boating? I don't know about the 2 buttons you mention. I only...

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

Thank you. Would the low fluid also cause the reverse lock to not be working? I just noticed the sticker below the fill plug in that picture. Is says to fill to bottom of the threads with the engine tilted up. How to tilt the engine up? Will I be able to tilt it up by hand, and then lock it...

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

I'm not sure if this pump is specific to Mercury or is generic since it's on board and not on the engine. It runs to a 1980's 70hp Mecury outboard. The pump motor still runs but I started having no trim/tilt and no reverse lock (related?). There is some clear oil on the floor under the pump. I'm...

    Mercury classic 50 (45hp) won’t stay running

The floats seem like a good thing to check. Make sure that they are level with the carb. body seam when the carb. is turned upside down and make sure that they still float (old ones do go bad). I would also check that your float needles are making a good seal. With the float and needle raised...

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

Does this missing bolt matter? I'm wondering if there needs to be another ground there? (circled in red)

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

What the heck does this adapter do anyway?
  10. B

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

Ok. Check the resistance of the wires coming out of the adapter? They should match what's coming out of the stator and into the adapter (@ 700)? And if that checks out then the CDI is the problem?

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

So... I have the Blu, Blu/Yel, and Blu/Wht. at the pack that haven't been tested. Is there a test to tell me if the stator adapter or the pack is faulty?

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

So my stator only has 4 wires coming out of it. 2 greenish and 2 yellowish. The greens read @ 700 and the yellows @ 14. Good, right? The 2 greens go into a pencil case sized box and come out as blues that go to the switch box. The yellows go to the battery, I assume? So I guess the only thing...

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

So I bought a CDI based on earlier replies. But I figured I'd look into the trigger(s) before opening the CDI so I can return it in case it's not the problem. Instructions to test the stator say to swap the Red with Red/White and the Blue with Blue/White. If the problem moves then a stator is...

    Smart Tabs on Deck Boat

I guess the Smart Tabs didn't end up being as effective on a deck boat as they are on some other boat types? I was tempted to try them for help planing with a heavier load. Would like to hear from the OP. (I realize this is an old thread.)

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

Good info. Thank you. I’ll test mine before opening the box that the CDI comes in and return it if not needed. ...and then wait for the part I need.

I guess I'll give it a shot. Ordered an aftermarket one from the bay,

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

Thanks for the reply. Is there any tests to confirm that that's it before spending the $?

No spark on 2 of 4 cylinders

The top 2 have no spark. All 4 coils test good with similar readings. The 2 with no spark share the same ground but I undid it and it looks/seems fine. Mercury Classic 50 #0A959445 What next?

    Classic 50 fuel pump?

That looks like my carburetors. So I guess no fuel pump even though my # starts with 9. I guess I'll replace the impeller and see what I find in there. I seems to pumping well so I'm not confident my engine problem will be found down there. But I do have a slight gear oil leak so it won't be a...
