    1976 Mecruiser 351W Trim System

Thanks Kenny. So as it is now there are two braided steel hoses from the bottom of the pump to down under gimbal-a high pressure loop for trim rams in and out. Then these two disconnected plastic hoses go from a seperate port on the pump to the trim cylinder to the lockout to the gimbal...

    1976 Mecruiser 351W Trim System

I have a 1976 American Eagle (ABC) with a 351W. It has the old style trim system with the 56046A1 trim indicator sending unit mounted in the engine bay. It has been disconnected and both hydraulic lines are just open. I posted about changing to the new style (senders on gimbal ring) but that...

    Gimbal Ring swap

Thanks! So if I get the right Gimbal Housing to go with the new ring with 'muffs' will it bolt to the inner transom plate? Basically can I change everything on the outside of the boat and leave everything inside as is?

    Gimbal Ring swap

I have a 1976 American Eagle with what shows to be the 888 outdrive (has 888 decal S/N 4228535) but with a 351W. Everything I have found the 888 is only on the 302 so that's confusing but on to my question: Can the Gimbal Ring be swapped for a new style that has the trim senders? My boat has the...

    Removing Bell Housing

Thanks! Watched a few Youtube videos on this and it look like it is no small task. Guess I will not be replacing the needle bearings :)

    Removing Bell Housing

Thanks for the reply. This is for sure the side pins that are loose. I got the bell housing off yesterday w/o issue and the shims are bad/missing, the pins looks good so the slop is in the housing and the ring. I will try to get the ring out today; got the bottom pin out but got stumped on...

    Removing Bell Housing

I need to remove the bell housing on a 1975 888. I am looking to remove it because the hinges are really loose (sloppy) between it and the gimbal ring. Are there bushings or some kind of sleeve in there that I can replace? Thanks for your help!

How do I remove bell housing merc. #1

Sorry to bring up such an old post but I was hoping to do the same thing...remove the bell housing on a 1975 888. I am looking to remove it because the hinges are really loose (sloppy). Are there bushings or some kind of sleeve in there that I can replace? Also at the top of the bell housing it...

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Good eye. I will have to see; boat is at the lake but will see when I get back up there. I had noticed that the elecs had been pulled from the choke. Based on what I have been told here I have the correct carb on its way so not really worried....

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Yep, the whole reason for this post; determine the engine to find the right OE intake to get the right carb back on the boat. Found this locally but a no go for my motor; https://spokane.craigslist.org/bpo/d/oldtown-intake-manifold-and-carburetor/7529242588.html

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Right but I read somewhere that a 4bbl is useless w/o the right cam and heads (valves). These motors turn 4k WOT so it is not like I am going to get more top end RPMs no? How would I determine if manifold is dual plane?

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Yes, It is a hot mess; choke not wired up, all the vac lines plugged with bolts, I am sure that the 4bbl part is not working. I have a winter of work ahead of me but as for the carb it will just be replaced with correct one which requires me finding the right intake. Thanks

    Identifying 1976 Engine-is it a 302 or a 351?

Just bought 1976 American Boat Company Eagle 18 foot and need assistance in identifying the engine size. It is a Ford small block that has been modified over the years. It has an Edlebrock manifold that I am sure is not a marine one as well as a 4bbl carb (no idea on make). These boats came...
