    Square tubing?

Re: Square tubing? Thanks! 5150abf I was worried that the cargo hook might pull out so I am beefing it up some more. The picture shows the wood built down even with the bottom of the crossmembers and the light weight aluminum that it was tied to. You can see the 1/4" aluminum that I am...

    Bigfoot?

How do you know if your Mercury motor is a bigfoof or not? I was told, by posting the serial number, that this motor is a 1050525 Mercury 1985 50. Did Mercury make some that weren't bigfoots for a while? Maybe I should be asking-what makes a motor a bigfoot?

    Dry storage?

We had some rain last night and I didn't have the boat covered. The longer side seat has an of inch of water in the bottom. The seating looks like it is designed to let rain water run down and into the bases. I will drill drainage holes but just wanted to know if I can get a storage cabinet that...

    Square tubing?

I noticed that there is a section of square tubing on a plate on both sides under the cross members below the decking. Is this just for reinforcing the transom where the motor mounts? I figured it might be because it is bolted to the last 3 or 4 stringers towards the transom but I just thought I...

Prop for a 50 hp Mercury

Does anybody know what the diameter and pitch is supposed to be on an 1985- 50 horse Mercury 2 stroke? I put a few knicks in mine-a 10" prop and my spare is a 12" with less pitch. I read somewhere that if I use a bigger prop I should reduce the pitch so maybe the spare will be ok. I just want...

Some battery chargers are over rated.

I bought a big name-on board- dual bank-charger. When it got here I read the instructions. It said to install it in a dry location. That was only one of the things that I didn't like about it. It was big and it was heavy. I have found out since that Schumacher makes a portable charger designed...

    Shake down cruise!

We got the old Bass Buggy on the water again yesterday and checked out all of the things we have added to it since we bought it. I checked out the anchor winch that makes a lot of rumbling noises both lifting and running the anchor down. The old auto pilot trolling motor works pretty good...

    Shiny Pontoons?

I see where a lot of people clean and shine the pontoon logs. I just wondered if there is a reason to do this other than for looks? Is there any danger in using Alumabrite to clean the crud off of them? If I clean them up how do I get the bottoms that sit on the bunk boards clean? Is there any...

    Rain Finally!

We have been in a drought around here for so long that they are starting to tell in the newspaper how boaters are only able to navigate parts of the Kankakee river and pictures of the corn crops with leaves that a are starting to curl up. It got up to 93* today before it started raining. Tom...

    Anchors?

Could somebody tell me what is the best way to anchor a 18' pontoon boat? Looks like there are dozens of anchors to choose from and I have found that a pontoon boat can drag an anchor pretty easily in a little bit of wind.

    trolling motor voltage?

We have a Minn Kota turbo 865 auto pilot that came with the used pontoon boat we just bought. Could somebody tell me if this is a 12volt or 24 volt trolling motor?

    Boat and trailer parts?

We had the bass buggy in the water yesterday. I found out a little about what is needed now. I need to find replacement parts for the Tracker trailer. One bow stop is missing and could use more guide ons towards the back. I fixed one of the middle guides that had too much slop in the mounting...

    wire sizes

I was wondering if there is a list of wire sizes needed for everything that we normally have wired in on the pontoon boat. I know there will be some slight differences caused by the length of run but there should be some common sizes required too because of the amps required for the item wired...

    Serial Number?

Just bought a Bass Buggy with a 50 HP Mercury motor. The whole works is supposed to be a 1991. I'm having a hard time reading the first number on the tag for the serial number. Is there another place to find the serial number on this 4 cylinder motor? When I try the search on this forum it gives...

    91 toon with 50HP Merc.

Could somebody tell me how big of a gas tank I need on a 18' pontoon boat? It has an old 50HP 2 stroke on it. So is there anybody out there with a 18 footer with a 50 HP motor that can tell me what size gas tank you have on yours and how long you can run it on a tank full. We just bought this...

    Is this wiring doable?

Can I run heavy wires to buss bars around the console area? Fuse the positive one and then run a single positive and a single negative to the front for the running lights. Branch off of them for the starboard and port sides? Or do you have to run seperate wires to both sides and all the way back...

    lights required during the daytime?

The previous owner just replaced the decking on the pontoon boat we bought from him. He didn't replace the navigation lights. Is it legal to use the boat in the daytime before I hook up the navigation lights? I have never been checked for lights in the daytime. Only a fire extinguisher-whistle...

    1991 50hp Mercury questions?

We just bought a pontoon boat that has a 91 50hp Merc on it. The guy let me start it on the muffs and it ran great but the idle was set pretty high. Is there a knob that you adjust to turn the idle speed down? It has the Quick Silver controls mounted on the side of the railing next to the...

    New Pontooners!

We finally found a good deal on a 91 bass buggy 18. It has a 50 horse Mercury that I started up and it ran like a top. The previous owner had just changed the decking and carpet and it has extra swivel seats and a remote control trolling motor. We want to get it on the water and try it out as...

    The stop button!

I found the insulation falling off of the wires behind the stop button on my old 1973 9.5 HP Johnson. At first I thought that somebody had skinned the wires to short them out to get the motor to stop running but when I started wrapping electrical tape around them I found the insulation was just...
