    1980's serial number / harness / general questions

    The decals are for the 1976 model year.----What HP is this motor ?-----No chokes , as it appears to have an enricher unit.---serial # makes it 1985 for a 175 or 1982 for 200 HP near as I can tell.

    It may well be normal for a 2 stroke.-----Some gas / oil goes right through the motor without doing anything.

    Nonsense.----The pulse limiter is a " flow fuse " for the VRO.----And the pulse limiter is NOT a " one-way valve" either.

    There are score marks on the cylinder walls.----Pistons are likely scored as well.----This motor can / will run.-----But it should be taken apart for proper repairs.----Little bit of carbon on pistons is normal and causes no harm.

    Orange / green stripe goes to 5 or 6.----Orange / blue stripe goes to 1 or 2.----You can not install them randomly.

    Is the battery tested to be good , yes or no ?----Is the wee ground lead on the solenoid tested and good or replaced ( see post #4 ) , yes or no ?

    ???----It is CLEAR on the wiring diagram !----And put a wire to ground.----And it is clearly there in picture #1 post #24 as well.

    Have the battery load tested.----Often a free service.----Then take a 12" jumper wire from battery post on solenoid to small terminal ( not the ground ) on the solenoid.----Report exactly what happens.

    ????---The key switch applies 12 volts to the solenoid.----The other small terminal off the solenoid goes to ground.----The solenoid connects battery to the starter.----This should be so easy to trouble shoot !

    depends on the condition of the motor.----Is thermostat working properly?----What do you do with this motor / boat.
