Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Yeah, I've seen some of those kinds of pics and videos, not pretty at all. Prompted by another thread here, I've got a chain as a backup for the winch strap in case either gives way during a road trip. I've been into boating off and on since I was a kid and no matter the size of the vessel they...

Something to Think of While Towing a Boat

I rigged a backup safety chain for the winch and bow eye today. I can leave it hooked until I'm just ready to launch and hook it back upon retrieval. Just enough slack to get the snap-hook off so she shouldn't move but an inch or so in case of a winch or strap failure

    New Boat For Christmas

I got a late start today, ahh the retired life, get to sleep in  if ya have no place ya have to be. I did get the winch backup bow eye safety chain rigged, she won't be going but maybe an inch or so should the winch or strap fail while on the road

    New Boat For Christmas

Here are the promised pics. Still not completely painted but it's where I can get the lights hung. The "open paint can in the plastic bag" trick worked, it was ready for a stir this morning Here is the crusty rear, now covered in paint, it did have grey paint with outlines of rusty seeping...

    New Boat For Christmas

I've got all the lights here and ready to install, did that while the gullies were being washed out the air dried by Nature. The new harness is actually 2 harnesses. I took one and split it for left side, white, brown, and yellow. The other was split also for the right side using the green and...

    Primer Bulb

I don't recall, the only thing I was after was the bulb and I didn't even use the fuel line that came with it, instead I used up the remainder of the injection rated hose I had left over from my Mercedes project. I know this is way overkill with 200psi hose but it was just laying around in the...

    Primer Bulb

Well they also had a Mercury hose and bulb set, only difference was the ends / tank connections. The one I pictured was after me installing the known good metal valves. The Evinrude unit came with straps in place that locked on with some sort of gizmo at the factory and once removed was not...

    Fuel Fill Hose

Yes, definitely don't forget the ground wire from the filler to the tank and to the common ground / bond of the boat itself, static electricity spark would be enough to go BOOM

    Fuel Fill Hose

Word of caution here if I may, NEVER EVER NEVER install auto parts on ANY marine application, specifically anything electrical (causes sparks) or anything to do with fuel / gasoline delivery (easily explodes violently). You might get away with gaskets and some mechanical items but an auto...

    Primer Bulb

Yeah, that in the video makes sense completely about the mechanics of the bulbs but I can remember (yeah giving away my general age here LOL) back when these gizmos would work no matter which direction they were pointed, I guess it's more cases of the blunders of modern technology

    Primer Bulb

One of those 🤔 moments with an added facepalm, makes sense but didn't think about the actual actions of the bulb and valves, mine with the metal valves pumped air no matter which way it pointed. Thanks for this insight and info

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Yeah, that gizmo would hold the engine up but it would still bounce back there. The one I got with mine fits on the rear roller on the trailer and the foot, no stress on the transom, or in my case the bracket.

    Primer Bulb

Pointing the arrow on the bulb UP is something new (to me) and not mentioned on the packaging

    Primer Bulb

How would you prime the gas line / primer bulb once hooked up to the motor ? These made now aren't worth a flip, as racer said, a "good" one should pump air, don't know who makes a "good" one these days. Like my own experience a brand new bulb failed to prime Oh and let me add this, I'd be...

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Nice, but no straps on the back and what about the motor bouncin' around back there, transom saver ??

    Primer Bulb

Used to be that when you bought squeeze bulbs, gas cans, all kinds of stuff they were better than the stuff being replaced, THEN the goobernment stepped in and we all know how hard it is to get gas out of these new valved gas cans, nearly impossible unless you saved the old necks or visited...

    Primer Bulb

I bought a new primer bulb only because the one that came with the boat was all cracked and dry rotted. I put the new one on with new fuel line as well and I squeezed that thing until my arm got sore and no gas at all. SO, what I did was the cut the metal valves from the old one and fitted them...

Just bought this pontoon from dealer, got home with no straps on back !

Being a retired commercial driver, I know about securing my loads and when I bought my "new" boat this year I had it all hitched up, safety chained, and lights plugged in I saw that no straps were on the back. I always carry at least two ratchet straps, this trip I had three, so the extra one...

    Homemade transom savers?

When I bought my "new" boat back in January the guy included a transom saver that looks similar to your pictures though I think this one is / was a store bought item and the length of it I think he put two together to make this one. The bottom end is U-shaped and goes around the rear roller and...

    New Boat For Christmas

First let's try this video, nope 76% and then a "problem" with the upload, oh well I got the Admiral to operate the throttle so's I could watch the gizmos on the engine, I believe she's ready for a dunking to set the mixtures on the 3 carbs (not an official splash though). I do hope that I'm...
